insomnia

ive had it my wholew life (i'm 30). I sleep 30mins-1hr ever night, sometimes 2-3hrs but will awaken every 30mins, and the VERY rare time i will sleep 4-5hrs, i will awaken every hr.  doctors know this but do nothing about it or even seems to care. i've tried the natural sleeping pill, but it kept me up 24hrs. there have been times where i have stayed awake for 24-72hrs. just recently, finally a doctor offered something for it, but I am scared of getting depression since I stress out a LOT, and I am already usually sad, I don't want to get suicidal or anything like that, because I've heard of sleeping pills doing that to people. What shoyuld I do?

Something natural ways to relax you and help to sleep. Follow the techniques twice a day, and you will feel the difference in days. Over the long term, you notice more benefits.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.

Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close little flap of ears with thumb, place  index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Repeat this  5 to 21 times.

Hello, how you doing now?

Well I think you are suffering with chronic insomnia, a sleep disorder. You can take help of natural herbs such as Kava or California Poppy to help you fight your sleep disorder problem and also try to keep your body relaxed as stress is also a major problem of a disrupted sleep.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament. A lot of studies have been done to highlight the importance of sleep and its rejuvenating capacity. Sleep is required to heal; it causes regeneration of the neurons within the cerebral cortex. Prolonged sleep loss leads to episodes of ‘micro sleep’, where in the person has several seconds of actual sleep in between wakefulness, this leads to a decrease in performance and in turn behavior. The implications as such are many, micro sleep episodes are the commonest cause for accidents.

So, please have yourself valuated o rule out a sleep disorder. These disorders can be like obstructive sleep apnea, wherein during sleep there is an obstruction to air flow due to laxity of the throat muscles during sleep and this could cause restlessness. Hence for therapy CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is used to keep it patent. Another cause could be an entity called restless leg syndrome, where there is an odd sensation in the legs during sleep causing the individual to move, which relieves the sensation. These disorders can cause inadequate sleep leading to fatigue and daytime sleepiness. So, I would advise you to consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. He may then ask for a sleep study called polysomnography for further evaluation.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
