What are the reference ranges for your Free T4 and Free T3? Reference ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report for the best comparison.
Were you tested for the other antibody that can also confirm Hashimoto's? That's Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb)... You need both TPOab and TgAb because some of have one or the other, some have both antibodies with Hashimoto's.
Has anyone considered Central Hypothyroidism? With Central Hypothyroidism, there's a problem with the pituitary/hypothalamus axis, in which there's not enough TSH to stimulate the thyroid to produce adequate thyroid hormones. It's still hypothyroidism and must be treated with replacement thyroid hormones.
Thank you for responding Barb.
My free T4 level was 0.9. Reference range is 0.8-1.8 ng/dL
Free T 3 level was 2.9. Reference range is 2.3-4.2 pg/mL
Thyroid Peroxidase Ab was 1. Thyroglobulin Ab came back as <1.
Rule of thumb (where most of us feel best) is for Free T4 to be at about mid range; yours is only 10% of its range. Rule of thumb for Free T3 is upper half to upper third of its range and yours is only 32% of its range. Both of your levels fall considerably short of the recommended levels, even though they are within the lab's normal ranges.
With your TSH at only 1.21, it appears that there isn't enough to stimulate your thyroid to produce an adequate amount of thyroid hormones, which is what Central Hypothyroidism does. As I mentioned, this is still hypothyroidism and must be treated as such, with replacement thyroid hormones. Talk to your doctor about this and if s/he refuses to treat you, find a different doctor.
you need to increase levothyroxine dosage to bring that free t4 to mid in reference range.
forget about tsh as long as free t4 in mid range. tsh can fluctuate and choosing levo dosage based on tsh value is stupidity as most doctors do.
