A different kind of New Years Resolution

OK, after achieving for the FIRST TIME EVER a New Years Resolution from last year, (which was to not eat KFC for the entire year - achieved, thank you very much!), my friends sat down to discuss this years NY resolutions.

So, here's the idea :
Two friends wanted to increase their exercise effort.
One decided to commit to 20 minutes each day (be it walking, jogging, swimming etc).
The other wanted to do this as well. Now knowing these ladies like I do, I figured this was going to be a doomed effort.
SO, I suggested that for each day they did not do their 20mins, they had to put $2 in a jar (small price to pay one would think). However, the other person got to choose how to spend that accrued money (and it had to be spent on an exercise task).

How this works, say if you miss 10 times - that's $20 about the cost of 1hr aerobics class (the other person gets to choose the class though...).
If you missed  20 times thats $40, oh and that looks like nearly an entrance fee into a local half marathon (ouch!), do you see where this is going?
The more you miss, the higher the exercise penalty you will pay.

Therefore by doing this, they not only encourage each other to get the 20mins done, they know the penalty for not doing the 20mins is relying on the choice of other person. They will be hard task masters to each other - I know that!
Therefore if you are thinking about the exercise New Years resolution - do it with a good friend and attempt the 20min / $2 challenge!

P.S. I wasn't silly enough to go for this, so my NY resolution is no McDonalds and french fries this year - YTD - on track!

Yeah it's really difficult to remove McD's and all that. (I had to cut out everything resembling McD's because of gallstones). But your health will really thank you for it in the long run.

OK, quick update, Im going to check with the ladies at the end of each month to see where their money is.
But for myself I'll give the no McDonalds, fries, or even KFC update. As said going good, but I will say so far we have been out a  couple of times and I have swapped the fries for salad or mashed potato. Husband had craving for McD's the other day, so i steered us towards chinese instead. Its not as easy as you think!
+ (and this is the main problem), we moved to malaysia last year, so ok, I can avoid KFC & McD's BUT sometimes you just crave good old western fat meals.

I love the idea of money or even just some kind of cost per work out missed! I'm finding it hard to stay motivated and do my yoga/ go to the gym. And, unfortunately, my husband would love nothing better than to skip the gym and play video games. This system might be just what we need. Thanks!
