Sunday Weigh In

Time flies when we are having fun, doesn't it?  In some ways, I can't believe it's been a whole week and in other ways, it seems like this week has taken at least a month to get through.

I'm sorry that I haven't been around much -- life keeps taking over.  As most of you know, I've had more "issues" with my elderly aunt and have  had to spend a lot of my time dealing with that. I was away so much of the week, that even my own home felt strange when I walked in the other day -- how silly is that?

Anyway, this is our weigh in day and I confess that I am down only 0.2 pounds.  Well, yes, it's *down*, but I would have hoped for more.

Yes, I do know what the problem is -- I spent a lot of hours sitting around a hospital, getting almost no exercise, other than that required to walk from the car to the hospital doors.  I spent a lot of time waiting for doctors to come visit and most times, couldn't leave the room at mealtime for fear they would come and I'd miss them, so I ate a lot of fast food on a very irregular basis - sometimes even only once/day, which means that I ate twice as many calories as I should have because I was SO hungry.......

We all know this is not a good "weight loss program", but sometimes, we just do what we have to do.

In addition to that, the stress has caused my thyroid issues to flare and judging from the way I feel, my levels are out of whack again. I hope that a few days of "normal life" will bring things back around.

I will be going back to work tomorrow, so should get back on some sort of schedule; hopefully, I'll start going down again.

Okay -- now it's your turn -- I'm hoping that everyone has had great success, but if you haven't, don't be too hard on yourself, because we all have our setbacks.

Your turn ------------- ready                   set                           GO

hi all, I'm late this week as I was away at the weekend and have been back at work so short of time.

I'm up a pound - 155lb. Bah. But I did indulge a bit this weekend,  my lovely husband took me away to a lovely hotel and we ate out a lot. I'm not beating myself up, I will just try to do better this week.

Welcome Sasha and well done on getting off to good start!

Well done Elaine - hurrah! I knew it was just a matter of time till you started to drop some pounds again. So proud of you for sticking with it through a tough patch there. I hope you will start to see more pounds dropping off again now.

Barb - you're in my thoughts and I hope things start to get easier for you soon. I think you are great for just being mindful about food right now even though it is so difficult to have a healthy diet with all the stress and logistical challenges you have at the moment.

Hurrah for Tigerlily maintaining! I hope I can get to where you are soon!

Gillianl - I have struggled terribly with choc cravings, especially after a meal. Personally the only thing that works for me is to go more or less cold turkey, over time the cravings get less.

Other things that have helped me:

Chromium is a good supplement for sugar cravings, eating a little protein or having a herbal tea instead can also work. I have to make sure I never get hungry, otherwise I start to crave sweet things. Yogi Tea do some nice sweet herbal teas that start to feel like a treat and stop hunger pangs but don't have anything in them that's bad for you.

wishing you and everyone continued good luck!

Save that bar for the evening, when you are relaxing and once you decide to eat it, sit down and do ONLY that -- concentrate on that chocolate bar and savor it to make sure you get the full enjoyment from it.  If you mindlessly eat it, while doing something else, it's too easy to say "gee that was so small, I don't even know what I ate" -- then grab another and another............

Keep in mind -- this is just an idea and it may not work for you.......and make sure you adjust your daily calories accordingly.

Are you using the food diary?  Sometimes, the thought of having to record everything you put into your mouth is enough to deter you.  I strongly recommend it anyway because by tracking your intake, you might find that you can cut back someplace else and still have a bit of weekend treat.  It's horrible to have to think that you can't ever have something that you really like........

While some people have to totally give up things they crave, I find that totally depriving myself of something I like will derail me quicker than anything; but if I have a small portion, it makes me realize that I don't really have to give it ALL up -- I just have to limit myself; hey, I can handle that (most of the time)........If I completely deprive myself of something, I invariably end up binging on it........

Since it's chocolate that you are craving on the weekends, try calculating your daily calories to include a small piece/portion EVERY day - then when the weekend rolls around, you won't be craving it so badly because you will have kept up with your craving throughout the week.  This goes along with what I said before about treating the weekend just like you do every other day; don't look at it as "special" and/or the only time you deserve those treats........be nice to yourself every day, just don't let it get out of hand........

You will have to experiment a bit and see which technique applies to you - having to ban certain foods, or being able to allow a bit without being excessive; then figure out a way to work around it...........back to the food diary, along with an "attitude adjustment"............lol

Best of luck.........

Try to forget about it being the "weekend" and treat those days like all other days of the week and if you do get a craving, get up and do something to take your mind off it.  Drink a glass of water or a small glass of diet soda to see if that will squash the sweet tooth.

Sorry you are having this trouble.  Will try to come up with some suggestions for you.

well i'm up 0.2oz this week, i'm getting really fed up with myself and just about ready to give up.  Again another good week but i ruin it with goodies at the weekend.  I've got a really sweet tooth and as soon as dinner is over i'm itching for a treat, preferably a chocolate treat.

How can i get by this?  what else can i do to get rid of these cravings?  i want to get from 212lbs to 203lbs by the 1st of May but it seems impossible at the moment.  I have upped my exercising and it is a vigorous workout, i just can't get rid of my cravings at the weekend

Well done everyone -- I'm so happy to hear that you are all staying on track.

tigerlilly, an occasional indulgence isn't going to hurt.  Maybe you need to exercise a bit more or allow for more calories when you suspect that you might be over indulging?

Elaine -- I'm thrilled that you have managed to go down again.  I knew your hard work would pay off.

Welcome Sasha80-- it's nice to have you with us.  Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you with your journey.

As for me -- my aunt is now home again and doing as well as can be expected.  Yes, Elaine, you are right -- I need a break.  Actually, I took a small one yesterday when my winter neighbor and I went rummaging in antique/thrift stores.......love those treasures we found.  In addition, for the first time since the middle of January, I have no company at my house -- don't get me wrong, I love company and feel fortunate that some of my family were able to come visit, but 2 months was a bit much for me at this time with everything else.  I'll go back to work tomorrow.

tigerlilly -- I now have to redefine "normal" for my life -- I hope I can do that soon.

Everyone keep up the good work.............

Well I have over indulged a couple of times this week but by cutting my points down to 24, I have managed to keep my weight down. I was 125.4 last week and this week I'm 124.8. I'm glad I'm staying on target but I would still like to be at the lower end of my range. I'm exercising and trying to keep my cravings under control.

Barb135 - I'm sorry to hear your aunt is in the hospital again. I hope she gets well soon and you get some normalcy back in your life.
