For me christmas is about the birth of our saviour, its the renewal of hope that there is good in the world, yeah sure gifts are nice, but each year the reason for the season gets further and futher away,

I'm with you, Elaine. Christmas is the birth of Christ, and each year, I feel like I have a whole new chance to change the direction of my life.
I agree that every year, the reason for the season gets lost a little bit more. I find it sad that so many people want to turn Christmas into "holiday" or "winter", etc. There would be no "holiday" at this time of year if it weren't for Christmas.
I, personally, prefer to give gifts throughout the year, as the notion strikes, rather waiting specifically for Christmas.
