How do I fix an external yeast infection?

Hi. A few weeks ago, I visited the OBGYN for recite t itching but only on my labia majora. The NP took a swab and the results came back that I had a yeast infection. I NEVER itches on the inside as I have with previous infections, but I took the pill and used the cream on my LM. It seemed to get better for about a week then the external itching started again. I used the cream for a couple of days, and it stopped. Now the itching is back. I don’t understand why I cannot shake this itching. I out some cream on and about an hour or so later the itching was back. What do I do? I’ve googled causes and and am wondering if my sugar intake is too high? But why is the itching only outside, never internal, and off and on?
