elevated ca 125

Hi friends,

hope you can help me out from the strange situation i am in.
I am a 30 yr old woman with a 2 yr old toddler. I was dx in May 09 with stage 3c ovarian cancer. I was given 4 cycles of neoadjuvant chemo(carbo/taxol) prior to surgery. my initial ca 125 was 531. after three chemos it became 8. during my suurgery after 4 chemos no visible cancer was found. my onco was ecstatic. i had 2 more chemos after surgery and the treatment ended on oct 09. My ca 125 was 16 in Nov pet ct was clear.it was 16 in dec too. In march it became 132!!! my doc said that its unlikely to be cancer as i had such a good response to the treatment and reccurence is very rare only after 5months and asked to wait for a month to repeat the test and a pet ct. I am totally shocked and kind of lost hope of my survival. pls share yr experiences with me frnds.

Ps: i was having single duct bloody nipple discharge from breast and microdochectomy was done to remove the breast duct. it was in february and it was for some benign condition.

First of all, congts to you for responding so well to the chemo.   Ca125 is not very reliable since it can also be elevated by other cause besides OVCA, such as inflammation, surgery, period, even food. The trend is usually what the dr looking for not a singe reading.   I would think your high ca125 is from performing microdochectomy in Feb. I would agree with your dr to repeat the test in a month.  If you really worried maybe repeat ca125 in a week to find out what is the tread and to rule out the test variation.  It is just my opinion, hope it help to easy you a bit.
