I can tell you from experience, methadone will get you high. It is a different high than other full agonist opiates, but it does get you high. I understand wanting and needing to do something asap. I went into respiratory arrest on methadone and felt the same way. I just want you to know what you are getting into. Methadone works for many and so do subs, but it is essential to have knowledge and a solid plan. If you can't taper and have tried all other possible approaches, then you might consider subs. Subs don't get you as high as methadone, but are very addictive. I used a 20 day sub plan to get me through acute withdrawal and am now 59 days off methadone and 31 days off subs. If you choose that path, post again with what your sub doctor has to say, the people on this forum have your best interest at heart. I am a little biased, due to my methadone addiction, but most people regret ever having taken it, same with subs. Short term use of methadone and subs seem to be much safer and effective. I think personal research, doctor opinion, and forum advice can help you form a good plan. Make an educated decision and you will reach your goal. Good luck.
Thanks Weav. That is a consideration. I've had trouble weaning off oxy because I know I can get high on it. My understanding is methadone has such a slow onset that you can't get high on it. I have to do something, I can't continue what I'm doing now. I just feel like I could think things over and get a plan together if I had a week or two when I wasn't consumed by this habit. Maybe it is a bad idea. Maybe I'll just keep at it till I come up with a better plan.
Good post weaver..Thank you~
if you only want to use the methadone or suboxone to prevent yourself from getting sick while in withdrawal that isnt a good idea.
If you are going on subs, you don't want to use methadone. Methadone stays in your system too long and is a more difficult transition to subs. Oxys are fast acting and will put you in withdrawal for sub induction much faster. I would try to find a sub doctor, if that is what you want, and skip the methadone. Methadone is my DOC and advise great caution when choosing that path. Read about sub induction, and you will see that methadone requires special considerations. Read about methadone withdrawal before you use it. Check out the suboxone/subutex FAQs at the bottom right of this page.
Have you tried to taper the Oxys? You want to educate yourself before you go experimenting with trading one drug for another. Good luck.
Have you thought about tapering down off the oxy?
Sorry, I've been using around 5 years.
I meant to say. I do not want to kill myself. That is why I'm asking. I was thinking about starting with 20 mg a day and see how that goes.
I expect I will get help before long. I just need a week or two to think without this daily burden.
Methadone is nothing to mess with and needs to be taken under a doctors supervision. How long have you been using oxy?
Please consult a doctor. Methadone is not something you want to try and take on your own. You are correct in being scared of it. I have heard many horror stories about people taking it without being under the supervision of a medical proffesional.
