I get through one day without doing it and feeling normal but then I feel the cold flashes and minor stomach cramping by day 2 and it's tough! I've tried before and went 4 days and the pain was only getting worse! I need serious help! Please someone who went through what I'm going through! Please! In desperate need!

Hi there.  You are young and I assume relatively healthy.  If you truly quit now, you should be fine. While I respect NJgirl79 experience and opinion, you do not need to take any other drug to quit.  You will experience physical withdrawals for about a week.  It's like having a bad case of the flu.  There are things you can do to help lessen the symptoms.  As was said above, you will need to change your life. Remove yourself from temptations. Stay away from dealers and friends who use.  You can do this! Please quit now before your situation gets worse. Trust me, it will get worse.  You have your entire life ahead of you.

Keep posting with any questions you have, and for support.  We will help you get through this.  Read through this forum.  There are a ton of success stories. Most of us here have been through this.

Take care, I wish you all the best!

I am one week off methadone, and I agree, that should be last on your list in trying to get clean.  After 2 years on methadone and knowing what I know now, I would have tried alot harder to ride out the 4-7 day withdrawls from the heroin, than dealing with the long and drawn out withdrawls you have from methadone.  I was not able to stay on methadone because of the many side effects I had from it. Seems after many times of wanting and trying to come clean, a bell finally goes off and you realize the only way to do this is to absolutely rid your life of anything and everything that had to do with your addiction.  People, places, things, and even some family if need be.  Mostly temptation only brings relapse, so why put yourself there.  It is so not worth it. You have to know that there is light at the end, especially because you are young.  But please find someone, whether on here or at work or a family member to confide in.  Just having someone to talk to when you are not feeling well helps so you know your not alone in this.

We DO NOT advocate Methadone or Suboxone here. They are used as a last effort. Just know that.

Heroin is my DOC honey and I was on it way too many years. I detoxed so many times I can't remember. Then I was court ordered into my 3rd rehab. I had no choice but to detox again. Something clicked while I was there and by the time I had to leave I didn't want to.

You have to really, really want to do this. You will have to change everything in your life, including friends and places that you hang out and drug dealers even if you think they are your friends. Do you want this? Are you ready to give up those things I mentioned? Because it can be done and we will walk you through it. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. We are here for you.

Hi there. I have read all your posts and I wanted to tell you my story. I have been addicted to opiates for many years. I went into a detox program once, and while I was there, there was a woman who was detoxing from shooting heroin. I watched her because I was so curious. She was very ill with her stomach if you know what I mean. She slept ALOT, and was out of it for maybe 4 days. Then she came out of her room, showered and she was fine. I couldn't believe it!  We started to talk and she told me that she has dried out before, but the pills I was on would take so much longer to get off, and she was so right. It took me months and months to get back to normal, but she just went through those few days of being ill and sleeping and then it was over. I don't know if that is the norm for people taking heroin, but she was a veteran user and it didn't take her long to dry out. Just an fyi for ya! Good luck, you are too young to be on that crap. You have your whole life ahead of you, don't take that stuff anymore. Keep posting, we're all here for you. Maybe enlist a friend to help you get through the detoxing. You gotta kick this stuff but good.

You can do it cold turkey. I know the withdrawls suck...but you have to remember we did this to ourselves. So it's time to pay the piper and just get better. The physical w/d's last around 1 week or so. If you'd hung in there a bit longer on your 4 days you woulda been almost out of the rough part. You will need to check into aftercare though for the mental part of your addiction. This help works on anxiety, why you took the drugs to start with and to keep you away from them from now on. You need to cut all your contacts to get more. Delete txts phone numbers, ban ppl from your life that you use to buy from.

Thank you for your opinions! I'm trying so hard to keep off it.. I can't tell my family because they'll judge me and stress me out even more.. I just want to be able to talk to someone that understands what I'm going through.. I'm going to be 25 next week..if I quit now when do y'all think I'll be able to function normally? Because once I'm off that's it..if I didn't have to go through the pain I would've been off a long time ago..I'm sick of this.. I just do it to feel "normal" when I get a phone back is there anyway I can text someone to help me? Like if I want to do it I can text you got help to talk me out of it? That's really what I need..someone to push me and to believe in me please?

I used the Thomas recipe, well most of it anyways, all I could drink was poweraid but maybe there's a better drink out there for when water is too hard to keep down :p to be Frank; you're probably just going to keep truckin! This part will be over soon! After the first week, I was able to walk around my neighborhood, go to school, etc, your body is healing and needs rest! Watch some good movies, hang with your fam/homies...I would've lost my head if I was alone 24/7!
