How much worse will it get before it gets better?

I am just beginning day 18 and I am having a terrible time.  I feel like I'm going backward instead of forward.  I had the hardest time dragging myself out of bed this morning to get to work.  I know this is going to be an uphill/downhill battle...........and I think I am in desperate need of some of you telling me that it WILL get better.

Thanks you guys!  I took vicodin for the past few years.  Progressively taking more and more.  A 30 day script would last me 7 days (90) and then get some more here and there......by the end of it, I was looking for a lot more!!
I don't know why today is so hard for me?  I am definitely numbing a lot of hurt.  (5 miscarriages, failed relationships, botched surgery)......I know that is a lot of hurt, but I also know that I have SOOOOO much to be thankful for!  I have the most incredible 15 year old that I need to get up each day for.  That in itself is enough of a reason, he is the light of my life.
I went to a couple of meetings last week.  I really think that I would benefit from talking to someone one on one.
Physically, I just feel totally drained......the adrenelin has worn off and I am digging down deep somewhere to find the energy to do anything.....
If I had to describe why I used before (besides numbing)....I used because it gave me endless energy and confidence.  Today, going to work was completely exhausting....and I am only 3 hours into a 12 hour day.
Thank you for your help.........it motivates to keep going one hour at a time.

Hang in there!! It DEFINATELY get's better if your talkin about the physical w/d!!!! Like Ga said ..What are you coming off b/c by day 18 most ppl are feeling really good even though ik it depends on the person the doc and the usage!! are you taking vitamins also b-12 is a great energy booster and there are many more!! I'm just not familiar w/ ur individual story!!But like Ga said until you start managing the "reason" u were using w/e u were to begin w/ then the pain and anguish inside will reep it's ugly head daily and the disease of addiction will be a constant in ur head..Def start looking into some aftercare now that ur this far along !!! Believe everyone on here that has gone through exactly what u are and got aftercare it makes a huge diff. in ur mental state and physical well being b/c U start to feel like ur joining the fight to "fix" ur probs instead of "numbing" them......And t.t sm 1 else that knows where u've been and where u r anow can work miracles!! Keep up the great work and keep posting...Daisy IT DOES GET BETTER...EVEN GREAT:)

If you're talking about physical symptoms like tiredness and sleeplessness, then it will get better with time. If you're speaking of that lonely, gut tightening, sinking feeling like the world is closing in...then it only gets better if you work on why you used in the first place...and that means aftercare. Are you doing any aftercare at all?
