Exercise has been my savior. I used to be very athletic and for the last 6 weeks have been heading back in that direction and it's been the big difference for me. I now have a trainer, am back to running and might actually lose the gut sometime....(I can see the 6-8 pak peaking through right now!) LOL
I highly recommend some sort of exercise to everyone trying to get through this
I think that alot of us ask ourselves during the withdrawl stage if it's really worth it...the answer is "F'N RIGHT IT IS!!!" You reach a point shortly afterwards where the feeling you get is like the first time you felt euphoria from drugs. I was so scared that I had done some permanent brain damage because my memory was shot and I had problems concentrating on things. Now my focus is back and I'm starting to really like the person that I am. I really hope that everyone here will follow in my footsteps and feel the way I'm feeling...life is so much better when you're drug free.
Steve
There is a good book available by Beth Moore called praying God's Word. It has a Chapter called Overcoming Addiction it has helped me. My girlfriend had a copy. You don't have to buy it, I'm sure you sit down in Barnes and Noble and read the chapter over some coffee. We're all in this battle together and I believe, for me, God has told me enough is enough. I think the band Five for Fighting has an album called "the battle for everything"...and for most of us that title describes the fight we're all in together...I started painkillers after a car accident two years ago, but i believe it is masking other pain in my life. I'm in the air force and got stationed away from my two daughters, age 9 and 12, plus left an ex-fiancee behind, two and a half years ago...I retire in two years and get to see my precious girls everyday again, thank God for them, webcams, planetickets and daily phone calls. I'm torn about quitting now or waiting. My meds are Rx so I can always go to the Air Force and ask for help, but as we all know, this is no way to live! Love to all!!!
I am about to begin a detox off dilaudid at outside of a hospital and am terrified.
Thanks for the encouragement and good luck, keep it up, AA helps.
Just thought of something...remember in the old days when they had book burnings...well would'nt it be cool to have a flush party? You could all come to my place and watch me flush my Oxy's down the toilet.
I'll prepare some food if Bobby would bring a cake,
Steve
"....dont be tempted to save them for a rainy day"
You have no idea how much I hate these pills now. They cost me my marriage, my career and the respect I once had from my family and friends. Now I have to start my life over from scratch so it'll be a cold day in hell before I would ever even think of doing it again.
I forgot how good life really is...believe me, it's grrreeaattt!
Steve p.s. I'll be flushing while online at about 6pm.
u have done great...and exercise has saved my life...i went thru a low energy slump after detox and kinda slacked on the gym as i would be tired after work....i could really tell i difference in my moods...i have picked it back up full steam and will not let my body/mind talk me out of it again..once i get to going...the energy returns and i feel 100% better when i leave the gym...dont forget to flush those puppies....dont be tempted to save them for a rainy day
Woke up early this morning and went for another long bike ride. It feels great to wake up with a clear head and have the energy to do the things you want to do. I've tapered down to 1 pill/day (from 6-8 Oxy 40mg) in just 6 days and later today (once I get them back from my buddy) I'll be flushing the rest of them down the toilet.
Trust me people it is well worth it,
Steve
Good for You!!!
I DO find that excersise helps; Alot!
Since getting off methadone I've walked at least a mile a day, my dog Chewy is getting more excersise too.LOL
I'm proud of You Steve. You're showing great Strength & Determination.
Keep it up!
You sure are proving to be a great roll model for anyone trying to better their lives.
Thank You for the inspiration!
Exercise is one of the best things you can do. Opiate use robs us of endorphins and seratonin. Exercise kick starts the endorphins back which helps mood and energy. It also gets the lymph system moving which helps detox the body.
