CT vs. Short term sub detox

Hey everyone,
I have a question that I desperately need help answering! So I just recently detoxed off OC (habit of 100 mg/day...that amount was towards the end). I used a short term sub detox for three days, in which I used 3 mgs, then 2 mgs, then 1 mg and then spent about 30 hours with nothing and felt very minimal wds. I definitely think it was the way to go. Has anyone else done a three day sub detox and have it work? Anyway After 30 hours from my last 1 mg sub dose I did OC (ugh I know I suck!!!!!!!!!) I ended up doing OC for the next three days (doses at about 75 mg). My question is should I go back to doing a three day sub detox or at this point go CT? Thanks for any and all advice!!!!!!!!!!!

something like that, i think, varies from person to person. it's withdrawal no matter what you do. you really have to want to be clean. for you to go right back on the oc's so soon like that, are you sure you want this more? how much more time out of your life do you want to spend being a human guinnea pig? for me, this is life and death now. i hope you never get that deep into addiction. remember is a disease with no known cure, but can be arrested with some hard work and help from others who have walked the path. good luck! sway

If you had the mental ability to taper off your DOC would that be better than getting on subs? For instance I was going to use subs for about three or four days to get thru the most of the wd's and yet hopefully not develop dependence on the subs. If you weer able to actually taper, would that be better instead? I need like 40 mg of oc/day right now to feel fine. If I did something like this
40 mg- Monday
30 mg- Tuesday
20 mg- Wednesday
10mg- Thursday

Would that be better than doing something like this with subs

Monday- 3mg
Tuesday- 2mg
Wednesday- 1mg
Thursday- .5 mg

And then spend the weekend Friday-Sunday going through wd's.

Which plan would be better for minimzing the wds after being done with either one?

I was able to get high from taking the oc because it had been over 30 hours since my last sub. I'm trying to decide what to do at this point to get off them. I messed up last week because I live with someone that uses and this weekend I'm going out of town and then will be moving out. I think not being influenced will help a lot. I'm just stuck on whether to go CT, take subs for three days or trying to taper. tjrox- you said you were on subs for a week. how did it worlk out for you? did you have wds from the subs?

Hi, I was on Suboxone for a week to detox from opiates and my understanding was, the way it works is it acts like your drug of choice and somehow blocks your brain receptors from accepting the other pills later.  I'm curious now, did you get the same effect after going back on the OC or was it different?  The suboxone is supposed to make it where you don't get the 'high' you experienced before taking it.  If you keep doing the OC's you're body is going to want higher doses of it and pretty soon you'll be hooked again, try to stop all of it before it gets too hard to go through the withdrawals, believe me, they're not fun at all.

Withdrawals can be curbed with sub..and short term folks can avoid an addiction to sub
sounds like u r free of ur oxy..for now,,,,getting clean is important but staying clean is tough...i am not thinking 3 days of sub will keep the mental wds away that may catch up with u...be starong and try hard to keep moving forward.   If u werent a long term user ,,perhaps the mental wds will not getcha....for many of us they r the bumber part of this whole ordeal and is why aftercare is so important

good luck and keep posting

Hi & Welcome,

Sounds like you are on that merry-go-round. Suboxone is not intended for the "weekend warrior" but is instead a program. Did you get them from a doctor? I would guess not. No doctor will prescribe them for 3 days.

Part of the program is seeking aftercare. Usually counseling and meetings if that is for you. JUST stopping doesn't work. You need to STAY stopped and it seems you don't know how yet. I know I didn't for a long, long time.

I can't tell you what to do but ask yourself this: What will be different this time if you go back on them for 3 days? How will you stay stopped?
