please help

I had been seeing a doctor that I trusted in for frequent headaches and back pain.  Everytime I went for visits I was just given more prescriptions for pain meds.  Now 5 years later I am addicted to Percoset and Oxycontin.  I finally found a doctor that did back surgery on me and my back is better but the addiction is still here.  I want to be pill free so bad i just know what's coming when i try to quit.  Please give me some suggestions to soften the symptoms because I have a beautiful 5 yr old daughter and i don't want her to watch her dad go crazy.

It's going to be ok.  What Jacky says is true.  And I'll tell you what helped me when I was having WD from pain meds.  I went cold turkey with the help of clonidine, but you would have to get that from your doc.  It's very helpful and is a blood pressure med.  I also took hot baths in epsom salts, used heating pads, took mag/cal supplements, drank lots of juice and gatorade, immodium, tylenol and advil.

You can do this!  You may want to taper before you stop cold turkey.  It's a little brutal, but I got through it and so have many others here!

Good luck!  The best is yet to come!

The doctor may have kept giving you pain meds but you kept taking them. The first step is to take responsability and admit the problem.

We can help you and you will find lots of support here. Check the Health Pages at the top right of this page. There is lots of info on supplements you can take to ease the withdrawal symptoms and get your health back. Check out the Thomas Recipe. You will find it there.

You will need to find sources of support as this can not be done alone. Many of us have tried many times and we not successful until we reached out. An addiction counselor is an excellent option as are meetings. AA/NA, either on is fine and you can work the 12 steps as well as get support and fellowship among people who understand completely.

We are here too. Post and talk anytime of night or day. You can do this and someday you will look back and see all these efforts as so worth it. Especially when you look at your little girl looking back at her happy, healthy daddy.

Best of luck...........

Jacky
