FINALLY READY!!! What should I expect?

Hello,

I am posting this in both forums; substance abuse and social because I need as much help as I can get...

My BF stated tonight that he's ready to quit cold turkey starting tomorrow. I'm so happy for him and proud of him!!

He's been on perc's for about 2-2.5yrs and oxy's the last year (maybe half). In total, lately, he's been taking about 100-250mg per day, depending on how he feels and what he can get. We've noticed that when he gets enough for more than a few days, he goes through them quicker because he gets depressed (and hates himself for being addicted to the pills, he says, in tun making him take more and it cycles). Without them, though, he gets extremely irritable and it's unpleasant.

To anyone that has quit cold turkey, I would like to know what to expect and what I can do to support him??

Please help if you can. I REALLY NEED ADVICE!!!

I wish you both all the luck and love I can.  Detoxing off of oxy's is pure hell, It would be better for him to taper off, he'll still have a hard time, but not as bad. If you plan to take this on with him know this, the person you know and love will not be there in the next week or two, he will be sick, crazy, mean, selfish, he's going to be in more pain than you can imagine, I'm not trying to scare you, just know what you're up against. His body will twitch and he wont sleep, he'll be nauseous and have diarea and depression. But oh God, after it's over he will be strong and calm and happy and ALIVE again.  I personally think he should go to a doctor, be honest about his addiction and tell him he needs a taper. You hold his meds. Only give him what he is supposed to have. Getting through this together will either break your relationship or make it stronger than it has ever been. God bless you for wanting to help him through this.
