Getting Off Perks

Hi,

I have spent the last 2 days reading post on various pain killers and finally mustered up the energy to post a question of my own.

I have been using percs for the last 3-4 years.  I have lost my girlfriend due to these drugs, and my job is probably hanging on a thread.  I went away for 1 week and didnt take 1 perk.  The last one I took was on the plane ride there.  I started taking them again as soon as I got back from my vacation.  I have been back for 1 week now and I have taken about 20 perks in 1 week (a big improvement)  I used to take 7-8 a day.  I have stopped now for 2 days almost and am feeling pretty ******.  I have went through this many times but for some reason I feel like this is it.

So my question is, how long will these withdrawals last?  Any tips to help get through them without substituting to another form of medication.  My goal is to NEVER take ANY type of pill.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Hey, i am wondering the same thing as quitinoxys...when you didn't take them for a week (about two weeks ago) did you have any WD's? I'd imagine you would have just about made it through the physical part of WD in that week. So you can pretty much use that experience to gauge how you will feel as you stop now...

If you went through 1 week of not taking percs why did you start taking them again? You probably went thru w/d in that week of not taking them so you will probably feel the same as that for about 5-7 days. I hope you can make it this time and you may want to try aftercare which is essential for a successful recovery. God Bless---Rick

Hello and welcome.  I was on perks for the past year and up to 15-20 10/325 per day.  Half of those I snorted.  Before perks, 4 years on hydrocodone about the same amount.  I am on suboxone since last friday.  I am not suggesting suboxone for you, if you can do it without, that is much better.  WD is different for everyone in time frame.  My acute WD would last nearly 10 days which is much longer then most.  On average, you start to come out of it around day 4-5, this is where most people notice a difference in how they feel.  Congrats on wanting to quit and giving it some thought.  I have weaned down my sub to 2mg from 6mg since I went on.  I am feeling 100% better then I had, but the hard part is still to come with getting of the sub.  I just have a hectic life and a very bad WD that most likely I would fail at.  Now I have to pay the price and take sub because of the choices I made but that's all part of the process.  If you can live through this without too much disruption, go for it.  If not, perhaps you could tapper down.  There is a lot of useful information on the Thomas receipe and suboxone down on the right side of the page.  Get as much info on everything you can, just like you have been doing by reading this site, and come up with a solid plan that ends with you being off the pills.  Good luck, I'm pulling for you man.
