When on the drugs you are in a world of fog.  When we were taking the most(near the end), we thought we were getting sooo much done but when the fog finally lifted we were amazed at how little was done!  It took about 10 days for the physical W/D's to pass, and yes, the mental W/D's kicked in just before the physical were done.  We had 2-3 months of "fear and loathing" of life.  It passed and felt like a new person!

That was about a year ago and it has been 483 days since quitting.

Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can, I have a very addictive behavior.  Hope this helps.

at 6 days clean you are getting very close to the physical w/ds letting up...the mental part will kick in really strong for a few weeks now...be prpared and keep going at it one monment at a time...soon you will be able to take it one day at a time....hang in there..it gets better.

Thanks so much for your words.  It is the encouragement I need right now, only on day 6 clean.  It is why I come to this forum; to get the encouragement, inspiration and drive to continue until the mental fog lifts, my heart stops pounding and the bouts of anxiety and weepiness cease.

It's different for everyone, sometimes it depends on what we used, how long etc. I quit coke and w/d from oxy's almost at the same time, it was the only time i had w/d's because the oxy's were prescribed, wow. For me it took a month for the fog to clear, my head was so scrambled and coke made me so unhealthy I was unsure if I would ever feel good again, it's scary. I craved the first 3 months bad, but today I crave not even once a month and they are nowhere near as bad as before. I am truly amazed and thankful those cravings don't happen often now, i didn't think it was possible:) Day by day at first man, then soon it's months. I can promise with more clean time cravings diminish, but I don't think they ever completely go away. The fight gets 10X easier though

How long do you think it takes for that to happen? For your mind not to keep begging for the drug?

Most of the posts here are from people that are so early in recovery and we are confused and frustrated in the first part of recovery. It's very difficult at first, but read some success stories. I thought for awhile I was doomed to, but with some clean time and lifestyle change life is great. I am clean and feel amazing now. Our minds ARE twisted in active use. A lot of verterans here will tell you how good they feel now, but it didn't happen after a week clean, it does not work like that.
