Very upset over having to re- take Norco Tabs

Hi everyone, I just tried to post a message to everyone than this IPAD has a mind it's own and took me to another page when I was almost done. In any event, I now need to stop the subs and start taking the Norco Tabs again to be able to endure the pain that is associated with this type of surgery that Im going to have Monday or Tuesday. The reason I am so upset is 1. I finally called myself a Prescription Addict and admitting it! This is a huge step for me. However, I know that Suboxone will work again once my pain is under control and I can stop taking the norco tabs. The problem will be if I bilk the system for all the scripts I can ask for which is about 6 months worth. This is what I did the with the last surgery I underwent. I know myself all to well. The Doctor and his team do not know my drug usage. They do not know anything about me calling the interns, PA'S, Residents and the nurse Practitioners I could call at anytime. What a vicious cycle I got myself into . I have been off the Norco tabs for 14 days now by taking the subs and now I need to go back off the subs and take the norco again.

I think it's great too that you came here to talk about this.

And I absolutely agree that you need to be honest with your Dr.(s) and get a good plan in place for your recovery after surgery.  You will need some pain management for a while and the only way you can do that reasonably and cautiously is with their assistance.

You can get through this and get back on track again, but please, get a plan in place, or as you said, it will spiral out of control again.  Good luck to you!

I know this is hard to do. But...sounds like you and your dr's need to get on the same page about your struggles and your upcoming needs. Are you getting your subs from a doctor? If they are a good doctor they can be understanding and give good advice. Do you have any support? Someone to hold your medications for you after surgery so they can help regulate? It's good that you know yourself and have come on to post...preventative measures. Just make sure you really are lining up a plan that is open and honest and helpful to your recovery :)
