Will I ever have peace of mind????

6 days clean off perks, all I do is think about keeping my anxiety under control and count the days- it's just as frustrating as when I used to worry about having enough pills. Same thing only different,...wish these thoughts could just stop. will I ever go through a day without thinking about either staying clean or keeping an adequate supply??? God help me. I'm tired already.

I agree about aftercare. Also, NA uses a journal you can write in daily if you like and really helps you to get in touch with what you're feeling. WDs are exhausting, but it's good because it's your body getting rid of the toxins. WDs to me are mind over matter: your addict brain is telling you that you need more while your rational side is saying no. All your organs which have become used to the drug are now learning to function without it. So,it's a major change for the body-physically and mentally. It's an emotional roller coaster in the beginning, but sit tight and hang out and eventually you will have a good time. Everyday gets easier and easier. I am almost two weeks clean, and I feel so much better today than yesterday. At the NA meetings they stress "just for today", and that's become my mantra. I am not worrying about how I will feel tomorrow or what might occur in my daily life because I don't know the answer to that.
Just know you are taking steps in the right direction. I do suggest counseling/therapy, NA meetings, etc., because these can be support systems for you. They help! And, you have made it 6 days which is great-the physical symptoms should be resolving, are they? I think about using alot of my day, and I just do other activities to keep me busy. Then I realize I've gone two hours and I'm still clean.
Remember, you didn't become addicted in a day, and true recovery will be work so go easy on yourself. If you're doing something and feeling overwhelmed, sit down for a min and close your eyes. Work through the anxiety; it's tough but you're strong! You are the right track and doing great!! Good luck!

I promise you this it does get better!!!! Congrats on 6 days, i say another week and you will feel like a new person.  You have to keep yourself busy, as hard as that it right now, just try.  The busier you are the less your mind as time to trick you into needing the pills.  Aftercare is the way to go, they will help with all of that.  Best of luck to you....Dane

Yes, those obssesive thoughts stop over time. You're still early in your recovery so try to be patient. There are things to help with this but the most important thing you can do is seak out some form of aftercare. Everyone needs help and support along the way and certainly wants to be well.  See what's a good fit for you! Maybe a counselor,an AA meeting,a group situation,or any form of aftercare. I don't advocate one thing over another but I really believe we all need something.

Also, what do you do all day?  Do you isolate? Keep busy? Exercise?  You need to find other things to think about!!  Just be patient and good to yourself!
