jacqui - You have a great point there. A long time ago I learned from an older friend who is unfortunately dead now, to live each day like it's a holiday. To try and love and give gifts not because it's a holiday, but because you wanted to and it just came from the heart.
Oxy - you have a great night tonight!! I'm glad you enjoy these days. Your fiance is lucky! Great point about the football game stuff!!!!!
Yeah, but if I avoided everything in life for that porpose along then it would be a very boring life in my opinion. You could alomst erlate everything in some way to being commerical. Does a football fan not go to a game because the vendors are set up their to make a killing off memoribillia? I could think of a hundred examples, but I am sure that those who care, get the point!
Oh well, I love it and I am sorry to those who don't.. ")
I hate the commercialism, that whole manipulation to buy sh** too. I don't buy cards, or buy anything for any reason like I'm supposed to. Gotta live like a valentine everday instead. Jump the spouse/significant other any chance you get, no matter what the day. Buy whatever you want becaus YOU want to anyday. I'd much prefer going out to dinner with my husband than to have him buy me a gift just 'cause it's Valentine's Day. I'd rather be with him. You can make this day, or any other's full of love. I try to do that every day.
It's just like Valentine's Day, only in October. Not sure why we have it. Probably like Trout said, for the commercial purpose of selling, selling, selling! I suppose people do the same things for each other - go out to eat, do candy, cards, etc.
That sounds cool as heck! What all goes on during this time? What special events or thing go on? Sounds very interesting though..
On top of Valentine's Day, here in MI we have a "Sweetest Day" in October also! I say here in MI because I don't think a lot of other states have that? It's a "Hallmark" holiday!
lol- sure, come on by and pick it up!
I love spoiling my fiancee on sayd like this.. It is a reason for her to get goodies and feel special.. I mean I do this anyway randomly throughout the year, and that is a great suprise for her and makes her feel good.. But there is something specail about V-day that she knows it is ALL ABOUT HER! I love to do it for her too. I used to be selfish about getting things for myself, but now I actually get more pleasure out of getting her gifts and suprising her and making her smile!
I cannot wait until we have kids and can start some good old fashion "pass me downs"
That dinner idea is great too, soudns like everyone gets to enjoy that gift!
At my age I hate it too.

Thanks, i too thought it was so cure, and he said he was doing it since a very young boy, and loved every valentines nite, there are 5 sibling, but the difference was they got a hamburger back then and only dad had the big ribeye steak!!! LOL, Then things changed and he said they started getting steaks....I guess his MOM put her foot down...Or maybe they really could not afford it...
So something to think about when you have kids, and start something when they are very young and they will always pass it on...
happy valentines day
hey can i have a peice of furniture too????
That sounds amazingly awesome! I lobe to do the stuff that has been passed down from the family ya know? Also we have no kids, but we are really wanting to start a family after being togather for 14 years.. We want to be able do things like that for our kids.. Sounds like you are great parents and the kids really enjoy this day! Thats great!
LOL...Actually every valentines day we cook for the kids, ribeyes, potaoes, and take out the china...THEY love this day....And look forward to supper...
So for us, it really is not me and hubby's nite, it is our 4 kids...His mom used to do this with him, so that is how it got started....
Then after supper, we EAT alot of chocalates!!!

My fiancee is just old fashion where she likes to not be the only one at work without flowers. Even though some may see it as commercial, I like to embrace it and it is even fun for us.. I dont mind speding a little extra cheese on Feb14th as well as many other random days throughout the year.. For her valentines day is special, so who am I to take that away from her right? Same thing with Christmas, it is supposed to be the celebration of chrits birthday right? Well DEC 25th isn't even his birthday by what the bible says. Also toy companies make Millions, but it is our favorite holiday for many reasons..
I can see the argument both ways, but for us it is a fun and happy day that we enjoy immensly! HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!! :)
oops, forgot to reat the To: part
Yep, when I kiss her while she is still in bed before I go to work, and at least one between the time we both get home then and bedtime. We also say "I love You" anytime we talk on the phone or IM
Do you say the majic words everyday?? I LOVE YOU
I try and avoid the commercial part of Valentine's Day hence the new vacuum sweeper this year. I print my wife a card, not buy one from a store. Make her dinner and so forth, but I do buy her flowers a couple times a month, just because I love her. Very seldom do I buy them on Valentine's Day, I can use the same bucks and get her more at a different time.
I completely agree. I'm only in it for the chocolate.
LOL...i hate mother's day!!!!!!!!!!
