Just an intro

Hi everyone! My name is Paulie and I am a 32 yr old father of 2. About a year ago I cracked my kneecap falling off a ladder ( I know...OUCH!! lol) The doc had put me on 5 mg percs and 20 mg oxy's. I recently got myself off them with the help of my wife and a friend who told me about suboxin. I mean it ***** that I have to take pills to get off pills, but I don't know what else to do! I never thought that I would get addicted to pain killers but I guess thats what I get for thinkin huh? lol Seriously though it ***** and has almost ruined my life. I got to the point where I lied to my wife about where I was going and what I was spending..I was popping almost 70 pills a week just to get high. Yes I said to get high..not for the pain. I mean I still have pain in my knee, somedays its bad, others its okay. But I was chasing a high rather than subduing my pain. What i'm interested in knowing is with the suboxin. Is it addictive and if so, is it hard to get off of? I need to take back my life..not only for myself but for those that look up to me and count on me. I am interested in making friends on here so feel free to add me if you are serious about your addiction. Godbless!

I would suggest talking to your doctor about what the plan is.  Sub is used to help get off of opiates.  It is also being used for chronic pain control.  What is your reason for using it?  Do you plan on being on it long term?  If not, and you are only using it to get off the opiates, You need to start tapering.  Like Cathy said, it is a long, slow process so best to get started now.  None of us here wanted to become addicted, and almost all of us never thought it would or could happen to us.  But,  it did and here we are.  sounds like you are ready to stop being a slave to this and get your life back.....good going!!  Don't look back, and don't allow the guilt to envelop you.  Be proud that you've made a decision to do something about it now, before you've lost everything as some of us have.  Aftercare is very important-find an AA/NA meeting and try a few out.  Find one that works FOR YOU and meets YOUR needs.  They all arent the same.  If that doesn't work for you, get into counseling.  Deep down there's a reason why we end up using for the high-once you figure that out you can deal with that issue so your relapse potential is slim.

Hey P-
Just some thoughts from your future:  I completely understand how you feel right now, I doubt any of us on here ever expected that we'd be in the place that brought us here.  But this is a great place for support, understanding, support, etc.  There are some great and smart people on here who will definintely help you get through it all.

Don't waste time on self recrimination or shame and just focus on your future.  It sounds like you've got some great goals and have made some good progress.  Be proud of that progress and keep looking forward to your new pill-free life.

I'm afraid I don't know much about Sub but I know lots of people on here do and I'm sure you'll hear from them soon.

Good luck!  You can do it!

wow 24 mgs is alo.  my daughter is on 4 and she has been on them a little over a month.  she started on 24 but was quicly reduced to a maintenance dose of.  sub has a very long half life and will stay in your system a long time is why you dont have w/ds in a few hours.  but in about 3 days you will.  whatever you do dont ry to c/t off that much.  sub is a great tool, but you also need some sort of aftercare to stay clean.. my daughter goes to na.  good luck

I am happy I found this group..because honestly there isn't anyone that understands what I am going thru. My wife tries to but then she gets mad and starts up. I mean I didnt ask to get addicted to pills..it is the last thing I wanted to happen in my life! But it has happened and I am dealing with it the best I can. As far as subs are concerned I look at them as a blessing because I can actually go a couple days with out them ya know? When I was on oxy and percs i'de get sick within an hr or 2 if I didn't have them.

Welcome ,
Its the weekend so things are slower then durning the week . This is a great place to come for support  and understanding .How long have you been on the sub ? It appears that short amounts of time on it makes it easier to come off of .We have had some people tell us it was hell coming off of it after long term use others say it wasn't bad at all.I have not heard many complaints at all from the people that have been on it short term .What ever you decided we will be here to help.

I have been on it for about a month. They have me on 24mgs. I know that right now I need to take them and I rather take these than oxy's or percs. Since I had them I havn't wanted the other stuff and I don't have any anger issues now. So I suppose they are a blessing to me.
