First, what Weaver said. :)
Second, I have tried Gaba also, and yes, the withdrawal from it can be very hard. However, have you tried a low level like 100mgs? And maybe every other day which would keep the w/d to a minimum. Very difficult to find a med (other than NSAID's), that won't produce some sort of withdrawal. I'm sorry you're suffering - sciatica is miserable.
Thank you both! I'll chat with my doctor about it this week :)
My cousin was taking Kratom so I did some research on it.
It is an opiod, and although it is not illegal in most states, that doesn't mean it is legal. Right now, kratom is not well understood my the medical community, and is on an FDA watch-list.
Most of it comes from Indonesia, where it IS illegal. It is harvested form a shrub, by who knows what means, and stored in huts, barns, lean-to's, etc. until it is processed and shipped here. There is no regulation, no oversight, no regulations on this stuff. What this means is that you don't know, literally, what you are putting into your body. It could and probably does contain pesticides, lead, bacteria, fungi, etc.
Google "kratom liver damage" and you'll see a lot of anecdotal reports on the internet about people who used this drug and had liver issues.
It's your body, but personally, I wouldn't take kratom. Just my 2 cents.
I didn't mean to say "reguations" twice. My bad.
Thank you all so much I'm reconsidering taking it.
Kratom interacts with opiate receptors in the brain. Many of us here hava a theory that artificial stimulation of those receptors is problematic for opiate addicts. Its not just about not taking pills! Its about not over-simulationg the opiate receptor by artificial means. No Kratom! Sorry!
