Heroin addiction

Suppose a heroine addict had mild to severe pain in their lower back due to spondilollisthesis (a spinal curving problem) and is just getting over their addiction will the doctor (which is a spine specialist) prescribe a narcotic, such as hydrocodone.... Even though the reason for being an addict was because he used it to treat his back pain himself because of not having a pain pill to take in the first place.... it is my brother and he is 19 years old it was for that reason he used but the stuff is just to strong and too addictive and he was unable to control what he was doing because it is an illegal street drug. He might go through professional detox help but he does not want to deal with the pain and is a legitimate case for pain meds and he will take as prescribed. Also i believe doctors can do check-ups on the bottle every scheduled visit so it shouldn't be a problem, right?

honesty for an opiate addict the worst thing they can do is put him on any opiate .Is he getting any aftercare for his heroin addiction ? Many of us are chronic pain suffers there are sometimes that can be hard but many of us have learned to you alternative management to deal with our pain .I would suggest he be honest with his doctor and stay far anyway from all opiates.

I am coming off a 13yr heroin addiction, i had over 200days clean and blew it. I didnt take it  for pain but my wife did , she used it for pain and to self medicate. I think it would be very difficult for him if he got another narcoric. I know personally i cant touch any kind of opiate at all or id have a setbck, saying that my wife now takes her pain meds properly but its very hard and she struggled sticking to the prescribed dose. Does the dr know about his addiction ? I think he should think very carefully about taking another narcotic, i know you say hel be in pain but when we have been addicts that is the price we have to pay, my wife still suffers from pain but has to put up with it. Heroin doesnt take long to come out of our system, we can sweat it out very quickly, sometimes 48hrs or even less will do. So check ups every month or so are no good, us addicts are very good at covering things up, or avoiding our tests.. Id think very carefully and talk to his dr about this before he does this, i wish you and your brother all the best in whatever decision you come too.....James
