hi the bars are 2mg and even if he/she is only using 1 it still requires tapering off xanex comes in 2mg bars 1mg,/////.5mg////.25mg pills they will have to step you down slowly or risk seizure a good phyic doctor can do this for you
this will take some time even if its just 1 bar mabe a mo but longer if it is muti bars a day leve this one to the professionals this is beyond the scop of a home detox good luck and God bless......Gnarly
Be careful regarding withdrawal from any benzodiazapine, especially xanax, because of its short half life. I would strongly recommend withdrawaling under a doctor's supervision so he can work out a proper taper plan with you. We do not recommend taper plans here at Medhelp, and there is no way to know whether the "cocktail" the realmattj suggested will be enough to detox your son or daughter from xanax. We have no idea how much they were taking, or if the above suggested medication(s) would be the best route.
Are you able to see a doctor or go to a clinic?
Please post and let us know how you and the person you are posting for is doing.
Well wishes to you....

@hotrod957 excruciating!! I dont want to scare you or be negative on this approach but a "benzo" addiction needs a lot more attention and nuturing then an opiate one. Listen to @overopiates NEVER cold turkey them. With my rehab and detox knowledge I would recommend that you get ativan (lorazipan) 1mg. Motrin 800, pepcid A.C. and if you can from a free clinic or doc if you have one get a blood pressure medication. That cocktail taken every 7 hours will safely get you off benzos within 7 days. Hope it all works out.
U should never stop them cold turkey u can have a siezure.A slow taper over a period of time is the best way preferably under a doctors care
