friends trapped but good

two of my oldest dearest friends are so messed up. we have been down the recreational addiction trail off and on since the early 80's. we all migrated down to virginia when new jersey became too expensive, not to mention too close to the city. now we are all nearing 50 years old. he has trigeminal neuralgia. has gone from percs on up to mad amounts of oxycontin both extended release and the fast kind. i lost track of his mg's after around 80 a day. that was 2 years ago. he is a shooter. she has fibromyalgia, RA and depression. was a bad alcoholic. now she is on roxys and some other high performance s***. they are in a constant battle over borrowing each others pills cuz they run out. let me back up a little. me and him were flat out heroin addicts back in the day. she would just snort i pinch once in a while. soon she was hooked. we all did the methadone thing and back and forth it went. they were off the hard stuff by the time they moved down here. he had his percocets,but wasn't messing up too  bad. she had him under control. then her body started falling apart, and here we are. he thinks its ok for him to mess up b/c he's an addict. she doesn't even realize now that she is too. they are miserable. he tries to have their son hold his meds, but he ends up searching til he finds them. his condition is bad and causes bad misfiring in the brain, messing up his memory bad. it's just horrible the way they are going on. i have to stay away from them so i don't get the proximity jones. it's even hard to let her vent to me by phone because of the opiate voice. if you ever used hard, you know what that is. she went through a time last year when she was still drinking her vodka daily where she was suicidal all the time. she'd call me and tell me. he's get mad at me for not fixing her. it's crazy!  i am gonna try to send her an invitation to mh e-mail, see if it helps. it's so frustrating. i love these guys. they used to be family. just want to scream. ok, all vented out for now.   sway

please be very careful trying to help them that you dont slip.  keep your gurad up at all times and stay away as much as possible.  you are doing awesome, i wanna see it stay that way...

Sway now you freak me out. Don't go nowhere near.
I know it's hard to see loved ones destroying themselves, but you know the 1st rule better than anyone here : THEY have to make the decision.
Your friends are so lucky to have you to vent. I hope they realize the hand you're trying to give them. xxx. sophie.
