Narcotic Detox

Hello everyone I am new to this but I was reading a lot of different things people put on their posts and found it very helpful so now I am searching for some help myself.  I am a married mother of two stepsons, one biological son, one daughter, and now one on the way in approx. six months.  In November of 07 I went through a long and terrible detox from home ended up in the hospital the whole deal.  That lasted about three months which at that time I started taking one or two OC 40s just to give me a little boost of energy. I thought I had a handle on it and now that I recently found out I was pregnant I tried not taking any and started going through the all too familar withdrawal.  I was up to taking anywhere from two to six OC 40s a day.  I need to quit better yet I have to for the sake of my baby growing inside of me.  My drug habit has been on and off for about 2-3 years.  I'm scared to death and need some help.  I have to do this detox from home with minimal withdrawal because I have a family to take care of.  Another thing is that this time around I can not let my husband find out due to him leaving me which is something I can not risk.  I need some info on the best way to withdrawal from home and some reminding on what I will go through.  The one thing that I remember from my previous detox is the extreme lack of energy I experienced.  I can not experience that lack of energy for to long this time.  Keep in mind when I detoxed the first time I was going through anywhere from 120-360 methadone 10s and percocet 10s a week.  My habit then was something terrible.  Now its not nearly as bad but I notice that when I don't take any oc's I don't feel like doing anything because I have no energy at which point my husband who works second shift starts to get very mad because I'm just laying around and he has to take care of our two year old daughter.  Towards the end of the day my legs start to get extremely restless and I get irritable.  Can someone please give me some advice on how to get through this for my unborn baby and how to do it with as much energy as possible.  Please give me some time frame on how long I will feel down and out and what I can do to reduce the withdrawal feeling.  Thank you.

First of all, being depressed(you went off your antidepressants) will make you feel like you have no energy......
>next...when you detox off of pills...you are going  to be low on energy...that is just part of the deal...and sometimes it takes weeks and months to get feeling back to normal..the other thing is you're pregnant...and you will have less energy just because of that. How far along are you in your pregnancy?

first off you have to come clean with your doctor .I know this will be one of the scariest things you do but for the sake of of both you and the baby you NEED to do this . while you are pregnant you ave to taper very slowly . I know of a couple of ladies on the board that can give you some great info .......one being gurlibuff she has gone threw this the other is a obgyn nurse 1234betterlife .i will PM them both with your thread they can give you far better info then I  hope everything goes well.

After reading your post it gives me some hope.  Thank you and congrats to being 90+days clean.  Can you please tell me how you did it.  What sort of habit did you have and how did you get off of them?  Did you do a taper plan or just go cold turkey?  Excuse me for asking so many questions its just that I need as much info as possible.  I wasn't strong enough this morning when I woke up, I was throwing up and had gone the whole night in and out of sleep so I took the last two I had.  That leaves me with no more and no money to buy anymore.  I'm very very scared right now for tomorrow.  What did you go through?  The thing with me is no one knows I started back up again and can't let anyone know especially now that I'm pregnant.  I know if I can get past the first three days it gets easier after that its just that extreme lack of energy I'm not looking forward to.  Did you by chance get the lack of energy and if so how long did it last?  My husband works a second shift job and is the sole supporter so after 3pm on week days I'm all alone to take care of the three kids we have full time.  I do have the oldest step son who is 13 so he's a help if I need him but there is only so much he can do.  My son is 6 and my daughter is 2 and she is more work than a little.  So I'm extremely scared at this point.  I am positive knowing that this time when I go through the withdrawal it won't be nearly as bad as last time because for the last three months of my habit last time I developed up to a 60+ pills a day habit and went cold turkey from the methadone 10s and percocet 10s among any thing else I could get my hands on.  I did go see a doctor when I went cold turkey who gave me clonazepam and clonidine to help ease the withdrawal but all they did was make me sleep.  The first week of my withdrawal was the worst at least what I remember of it.  The second week I ended up in the hospital due to such lack of energy.  It turned out the meds the doc had given me were interacting with other meds I was on due to my disorder and were causing my heart to beat extremely low.  I came home after two days and was sick for the rest of the week until I took 20mg of methadone which gave me the energy boost I needed.  I was up and about and didn't take a single narcotic for about two months which is when I started taking things here and there for the boost.  The rest is history.  I've been taking the oxys since December but was only taking one or two a day and not every day it was more on and off until the middle of January at which point it pretty much became an everyday habit.  So I guess to be positive the one thing I do have going for me is that I've only been taking these ocs for approx. 3 and a half months which is nothing compared to how long some people are taking narcotics.  A three and half month problem can't be that hard to get over right?  I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance.  Please give me as much info into your detox and problem you had as possible.  Let me know how you got over it and how long your detox symptoms lasted especially your lack of energy.  My lack of energy gets to be so bad it litterally feels like there is lead in my arms and legs.  I don't feel like doing much of anything which in my situation just doesnt work.  Like I said I"m the one responsible for taking care of my house and having a two year old around isn't easy by itself let alone going through detox.  I'm just looking forward to getting my life back and this time when I detox I won't go back again.  I know once I'm clean I will stay clean especially through my pregnancy because knowing that I'm puting this nonsense into my body while carring a precious baby really gets to me.  I do have one friend who lives a couple of blocks away who two weeks ago went through detox at home for about four days and she also has two small childrent.  The one thing she had going for her was her boyfriend was there to support her.  I know I can most likely call on her after my husband goes to work and have her come over to help out as much as possible to see me through this.  But I don't want to rely on her if for some reason she is unable to committ to helping me.  I'm just really really scared and like I said I"m looking for some reassurance.  I look forward to hearing from you.

You are in the right place. Everyone here is great. We are hear  to listen and help as much as possibe. In my opinion i would split them up since you dont have enough to do a taper plan. As for the lack of nergy, yes it does suck but at least you can blame it on being pregnant!LOL. Please don't beat yourself up about this. You are a good mother and will continue to be a good mother. I myself am a mother of 2 small kids. At first I thought the pills made me a good mom but I am now 90+ days clean from the vicodins and Look I am still a good mom. I did it for my kids. They are to little to understand and I am thankful for that. Stay strong you can and will do this. We are here for you!

Thank you for that info on the oxycontins.  I had already looked up what affect they would have on my baby so now i just want to be done with them.  I'm hoping someone can give me info on getting clean also.  When I found out I was pregnant I had been on multiple meds due to a disorder I have.  I took myself off of all of them including my anti depressent but can not seem to kick the ocs.

Teratogenic Effects - Category B: Reproduction studies have been performed in rats and rabbits by oral administration at doses up to 8 mg/kg and 125 mg/kg, respectively. These doses are 3 and 46 times a human dose of 160 mg/day, based on mg/kg basis. The results did not reveal evidence of harm to the fetus due to oxycodone. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.

Labor and Delivery
OxyContin® is not recommended for use in women during and immediately prior to labor and delivery because oral opioids may cause respiratory depression in the newborn. Neonates whose mothers have been taking oxycodone chronically may exhibit respiratory depression and/or withdrawal symptoms, either at birth and/or in the nursery.

Nursing Mothers
Low concentrations of oxycodone have been detected in breast milk. Withdrawal symptoms can occur in breast-feeding infants when maternal administration of an opioid analgesic is stopped. Ordinarily, nursing should not be undertaken while a patient is receiving OxyContin because of the possibility of sedation and/or respiratory depression in the infant.

Thank you everyone for replying so quickly.  Faithful74 had said I should do a tapering off.  To tell the truth I wish I could.  The ocs I take now are bought off the streets and I am out of money now for about two or so weeks.  I bought my last two this afternoon and don't know whether I should take both of them tomorrow or should just try to take half of the oc 40 each day for four days to kinda lower my dose. I'm hoping I can do this considering I'm used to taking between 2 and 6, mostly taking 4 a day.  So I'm stuck and just need some guidance and help to keep myself sane and not to sick and also to make sure my baby stays safe.  I feel like a terrible mother for even taking them for as long as I did with  both my other children I didn't so much as take a tylenol so I'm quite scared and disappointed in myself.  In a way my disappointment towards myself regarding the health of my unborn is something that is going to keep me strong.  I really need help and guidance from anyone willing to share.

Some medical conditions may interact with Oxycodone . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have a history of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other lung or breathing problems
if you have a history of recent head injury, increased pressure in the brain, growths in the brain (eg, tumors), or seizures
if you have a history of heart problems, low blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, an underactive thyroid, adrenal gland problems (eg, Addison disease), stomach or bowel problems, gallbladder problems, inflammation of the pancreas, a blockage of the bladder or bowel, an enlarged prostate, or the blood disease porphyria
if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse, mood or mental problems, or suicidal thoughts or behavior
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Oxycodone . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Cimetidine, furazolidone, MAO inhibitors (eg, phenelzine ), phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), or sodium oxybate (GHB) because the risk of side effects such as severe drowsiness, slow or difficult breathing, confusion, and seizures may be increased
Buprenorphine, butorphanol, nalbuphine, naltrexone, or pentazocine because the effectiveness of Oxycodone may be decreased
This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Oxycodone may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

PREGNANCY: There is very little information about the effects of oxycodone on the fetus. Physicians may use oxycodone in pregnant women it if its benefits are deemed to outweigh its potential and unknown risks.

NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known if oxycodone is secreted in breast milk.

Pregnancy: Neonates of mothers who have used oxycodone chronically may exhibit respiratory depression and/or withdrawal symptoms, either at birth and/or in the nursery. Use only if clearly needed (Pregnancy Category B).

Labor and delivery: Not recommended immediately before labor and delivery because drug may cause respiratory depression in the newborn.

Breast-feeding: Do not use in nursing mothers.

Pediatric use: Safety and effectiveness in children under 18 yr of age not established with this dosage form.

hope this helps

Hello and welcome to the forum... I believe that a girl named avisg could help you out the best... hopefully she is one tonight... I believe the best for you would be to follow a strict taper... as quitting cold turkey may do more harm than good for the baby, I'm no dr.
Someone will be here soon with good advice and help for you! Much love...
