No sleep 'til Brooklyn I guess . . .

This is the longest I've gone without a vicodin in over 6months straight. I can't sleep, my arms hurt so bad I want to saw them off. I just want to sleep the next 7 days away. I'm crying a little, watching a little tv, being a lot scared, but not taking the 3 remaining pills I have stored under my bed. I know I should flush them, I guess I just wasn't ready yet. I also know this will be getting a lot worse. I just want to close my eyes . . .

Any med that has a tendancy to be addictive needs to be monitored closely by a doctor when going thru wd's.  Swapping addictions is very common......sara

I hope today is going well for you. I am in the same boat as you are, but with roxicet 30 mgs doing them 2 or 3 a day.. Although it seems we were doing about the same mg. This is my second time going through all this and let me tell you it only gets worse after the first time. If you think you need help you should get it, but if I were you I would write down all the reasons why I wanted to quit. Just for starters you can write down all your triggers too. And avoid them! I went 3 months in my first try, but relapsed for 2 straight months only not to find what I was searching for. It was a very dark, and sad time in my life but I documented all of it in my journal. There is only three places drugs will take you. Jails, Institutions, and Death. Please be safe and pray to whatever you can pray to. Just pray to the God that you understand. It will get better in time.

Yes, you are correct, I hadn't taken the thought into consideration...I'm fortunate to have insurance but an ER visit still cost me $100...

And the benzos helped with the agoraphobia/panic attacks I was dealing with a couple of weeks after quitting..I did NOT want to leave the house for anything..at least they made it possible to get out of the house.

And nobody said NOT to take them just use them as a last resort. yes it has helped many but has also put many into the black hole they were just out of. And its not just about the difference of chemicals its the fact that you are a addict its our disease and sometimes we cannot just take something without getting addicted to it, its in our nature to go over the amount and abuse them.

Yea and the man who wrote the thomas receipt also was an addict and his addiction took his life. Why do you think they revised the thomas receipt. Yes they are totally different things but switching your addiction can be very bad. Another thing you should take benzos to help if its your last straw thats it. You know man you have a nack of getting on other peoples opinions. Dont sit there and bash on other peoples opinions...read it respect it and put yours in while not pointing people out or trying to argue that opinion. People come here to help not argue. Good luck with your recovery everyone and you will be in my prayers. Much love

yeah well where is the point then when benzo's would be appropriate?  You know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to say NO!, NO! xanax or valium or any other benzo! ever is wrong.  Even the Thomas Recipe calls for it.  Benzo's and pain pills are 2 totally different things, and to think that using a few to help relieve detox symtoms will lead to another full blown addiction is absurd I'm sorry.

Oh yea and I dont think you are not to the point to where you need any Benzos ( Valium, xanax etc.) this can be addicting and are even HARDER then vic's to come off of.

Try and go for a walk or something if you have a bike a nice ride seems to do the trick for me to get up and going in the mornings. I hope you flushed those pills already. You can do this just stick with it! Just remember that your addiction just doesnt go away, the w/d's and the mental mess of it yes it will pass but that does not mean you can ever let your guard down. For me the hardest part was accepting that i was an addict just not right now but for llife, i know that if i take just one, my addiction will just start over. **** even 20 years down the road from now I am still going to go to NA regularly. Please take this into deep emphasis that it wont just go away and you can forget about it cause that will cause you to relapse, just keep a simple thought in the back of your head, how much you felt like **** after taking them and how you never want that feeling back. You will be in my prayers (I just let god back into my life after 10 years of me blocking him out!!! =) super stoked) Much love.

Hi guys, so I finally fell asleep around 3am or so last night. I woke up feeling restless, but not horrible yet. I know the worst is still by far yet to come. I have today, tomorrow and thursday off from work. I did this on purpose so that I could have the bulk of my detox done and over with by Friday. This is def the longest I've gone without taking a vicodin, and I feel like ****, but I'm not dead, haha. I feel like I always secretly thought I would just somehow stop living if I stopped taking them, I duno, they made me think some ridiculous things. Anywho, I am praying that today is my first sober day in over 6months! Please say a prayer for me guys. Also, please keep an eye out for my posts if you can, this forum has seriously given me so much already, I don't think I would have picked a stop date if it wasn't for you all. Now I'm going to be going through the really tough stuff though, so I'd really love it if I could keep talking to you all through these posts, I know I'm going to need it. Thanks again.

i also don't think a mild benzo is a good idea at all....

You know the doctors and mild benzo's may be a good idea, but a lot of people don't have $300 - $500 to spend on those things.  Do you know how much walking into the ER and asking for "help" costs if you don't have insurance?  The bill could be over a grand!  So unless you are near death - which you won't be going through vicodin withdrawal - don't go to the emergency room Colleen, just hang in there and let us know how you're doing.

Here's what I did a couple years ago when I realized I HAD to give up vicodin...I walked into the ER and said "help"  I don't want more pain meds, I want help.  They gave me a script for clonidine (not klonipin)...take exactly as directed..EXACTLY..it is a blood pressure med that is a big help with easing the withdrawl effects, but over doing it can reduce your BP to dangerous levels...if possible see if the doctor will give you a mild benzo to help with the shakes and anxiety...TAKE ONLY AS DIRECTED...

within 2-3 days I woke up one morning and said "Hey! I feel better!  There were some lingering anxiety effects which the benzo helped..

NOTE THAT IF YOU GET CLONIDINE THEY DO MAKE YOU DROWSY AND DRY MOUTHED...KEEP A BAG OF HARD CANDIES AROUND TO SUCK ON AND A BIG GLASS OF WATER..AND THEY WILL MAKE YOU DROWSY...I fell asleep at work on day while on them...

Good luck to you....and flush those last 3...they aren't going to do you any good anyway.

6 months, you've come so far!!!  Don't go back now or all that pain, hurt and fustration you've already been through would be for nothing.  Now, the 3 remaining pills, flush them down the toilet before you flush them down your throat.  You've come so far with a smart decision to quit and you don't want 3 stupid little pills hanging over your head tempting you.  Have you even thought about how pissed off at yourself you'd be if the stupid pills won over smart you after already making it 6 months without them?    I must tell you, I am fighting a battle of my own with Lortab.  I've been clean since Friday.  I went to a doctor to seek help.  I'm not as strong as you and I knew I couldn't go through the withdrawl symptoms without some sort of relief.  He gave me a script for Suboxone.  I have to say it really works.  I don't have the muscle aches, headaches, stomache issues, etc.  As for wanting the tabs, I don't, but I had already made up my mind I was threw.  Now that I think about it, I had 3 remaining too.  When I got out of the doctor's office I immediately got rid of them.  Your story encourages me greatly.  I wish you the best and I know you will make the right decisions.  Remember you are smart and strong!

even if you feel like you want to be alone, is there somewhere you can go?  where there are no pills?  where you can keep busy, even just talking to a friend....just to keep your mind of the vikes.

i came off of roxicotten after being on them nearly 8 months, completely cold turkey, you seriously need to keep yourself busy and drink a lot of water.
