Nonstop cravings today

Today (day 4) has been one nonstop craving.  I was seconds away from buying some at least 5 times today but stopped myself.  All these excuses to get some are playing over and over in my head. I then get this panic feeling that I am going to die or something if I don't get some. I can't stand this.  Sorry, just needed to vent.

Hi fullofgrace,
You are doing awesome! I know the craving stink but it's all part of the process. I like you was a recreational user for years and then crossed over the line into full blown addiction. I can't believe the things I have done to get pills.
You just have to take it one day at a time. When I am craving I just tell myself, 1 is too many and 1000 is never enough. There will never be enough Vicodin in the world to take away my pain.
I was on a 2 year run with it. Ended up in the hospital from an accidental overdose which didn't make me stop.
I was up to 20-30 pills a day.
I am now 45+ days clean so it can be done.
Hang in there!!!

Hang in there, I just went through it, today is day 8 for me. The cravings are pretty much gone, but some WD still there.
Next week you will be responding to people who need help and telling them how you made it through it. I know you will make it I did, and I was taking 6-8  10/500 vics. for almost 3 years.
we will talk to you tomorrow when you have another day behind you.
Take a hot long bath.....

Hi,

Hang in there!! You can do this. I too was taking 6 Vic's a day 7.5 mg. I had been taking Vics daily for about 3 yrs increasing my dose every 6 months or so. I quit on May 23rd so its almost 6 months!! YOU CAN DO THIS. Your mind will play games and you will feel "out of whack" for a couple of weeks. I was so paranoid to go back to my daily routine without pills. All is good and the worry was for nothing.
I'm not gonna sugar coat that the cravings are not there. They come and go but thank god I cut all ties with people who supplied drugs. It helps knowing that even if I stupidly took one that I would not be able to get a hold of enough to keep me happy so that deters me in my times of weakness. I hope that makes sense. Most of the time though I DO NOT think about pills ,it is more of a boredom thing and convincing myself I wouldn't be as bored if I took a pill. Stupid I know but that is how the mind works sometimes.
Please try to excersise and SWEAT. It really helps both Body and Mind during your withdrawal period. After about 6 weeks I began dieting and excersing and have lost 35lbs. The excersise helps so much!!! It is a natural endorphin release.
I hope you hang in there and just know you can lick this. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you for that stray cat analogy, ricart70.  I am holding that image in my mind today and I really think it will help me combat any cravings that will come up.  The only thing is I am replacing the stray cat with a possum because I would feed a stray cat.  Possums scare the hell out of me so I definetely won't feed one of those.

Thank you for your responses.  I just freaked out for a second there.  I don't remember life without pills, because even before I became a full-fledge addict, I was always taking them once in awhile.  It only turned into a daily thing the last few years.  I have no idea who I am anymore.  You are right Ann, it is a dead end.  I'm feeling better now....and I didn't even need a pill to make the cravings stop for the moment.

What you are experiencing is normal.  You can't go back.  It is a dead end. Do you remember what it feels like to not be on the pills?  Give it a couple more days if you don't remember.  You will be amazed at how different your brain feels.  It is AMAZING.  I wish I could articulate it better to you.  Look in the mirror.  Do you look different yet?  You will.  When you smile and really laugh for the first time you will understand what I am trying to convey to you.

The next time you get a craving come on to this forum and type HELP as a question.  Do not leave your house to go by some.  Or call a friend, jump in the shower, turn on the TV.  Do anything but go out to buy a pill.

I was taking vicodin, 5 pills a day, different strengths, for about 2 1/2 years.
I guess I just need to know that this is a normal part of getting off these things.  Thanks
