Norco Addiction - Books?

Hi, I am just barely admitting I have a problem - cant even say the word Addiction! I am trying. I am wondering if anyone knows any books that would help? I recently read a few articles of people who have stopped smoking by reading some books available that target that addiction but I cant seem to find anything to help Pain Killer addiction. I found lots of advice and info. but nothing like an AA Program that offers at home, self help. I have had friends that were on AA for alcohol problems but it seemed to never work for them. Anyway, I am hoping there might be advice. I am following this post but again, I am barely at the stage of recognizing there is a problem :-(

Hi there.
Fear is the worst part of this.  You haven't said how much you were taking or for how long but the longer you use, the harder it will be to stop.
I know it takes awhile for it to sink in.  I wish I had found this site earlier but I really didn't search until I was desperate.
Being informed can really help you and don't hesistate to ask us any questions that you have.  We have all been there.  Don't be afraid.
Many of us have quit cold turkey, tapered.  Some of us have relapsed and returned but we are all still fighting daily to be clean.
Good luck to you and keep posting.  It really helps.

Thank you so much for all the replies. I am taking in all the responses and really feel like this is the place for me to be. I know I am not alone. Having the support of others who understand what I am going through makes me less scared of taking the steps I need to take. :-)

Hi Denial. Glad you found us. So I will start with saying, I dont know specifically of any books that target prescription addiction. I do know that they have alot of books that cover addiction in general and I read some of them a few years ago (when I first wanted to stop) I too, wasnt ready to admit I had a problem. So heres what I think IMO about self help books ESPECIALLY for addiction. I think they can be a great added tool along with MANY other things that you need to do to break the cycle of addiction. They explain alot of detail of how addiction works in your brain and physically in your body and also give some good advice on deep breathing exercises and other things to help relax your brain (which can be helpful during withdrawls) The problem here though, for you (again IMO) is if your not even really ready to admit you have a problem, then These books are not going to be what you need to help you get clean.  And like anything, if your not ready to stop then They are really nothing more than informational

We have all been where you are right now! We can help you to start the process you need to get clean and take your life back. It sounds to me that you want to stop, otherise you wouldnt have found this forum. Right?  There are so many people here with large amounts of clean time who have walked in your shoes, and came through to the other side. It can be done!

We are here to answer any questions you have or offer any suppport you need! just keep posting and we can help you. This place has been a lifesaver for me and so many others and hopefully it will be for you too!

I would be interested in these books, if they're available, as well! I'm new here as of today. Same problem.
