Now is my time to stop!

My whole post just got wiped away so I'm going to say this again in a nutshell.
This is not really a question, it's more of a rambling based on what I have read in this part of the forum on hydrocodone abuse and withdrawal.

I'm not ready to tell my hubby about this but I would not be surprised if he's also not addicted.  We've both been using his 10/375 hydrocodone since his back surgery 4 years ago.  I have currently only taken a total of 7 each day (most days as little as 2 just so the day after I can get that "good feeling" by taking 5 or more) but this week I was determined to cut back.  At work, I notice the withdrawal symptoms.  Monday I took 3 at work, 3 at home.  Tuesday it was 2 at work, 1 at home.  Today I had none left in my purse so I sit here in a small amount of agony and it's only 1:30. :(  My neck hurts, I feel like stretching like there is no tomorrow, my ears are ringing and I'm getting a headache.  I prefer to just taper off on my own and once down to maybe 2 a day use the Thomas Detox method as I saw it posted back in 2002.

Now I realize it is not even close to what some of you are experiencing and I do feel for you.  I'm just seeing how thankful I am that I started looking now for help instead of waiting until I had to get my RX off the interent.  The doctors have taken him off the hydrocodone and we have 3 months supply left.  Kinda nudges me to get the message!

It's been a busy busy weekend and I we've pretty much waved at each other as we pass in/out the door.  lol  I was at a Motorcycle Training Course all weekend and my neck and legs were killing me by the time I got home so I took some HC, 4 as a matter of fact.  That was saturday.  Sunday I did the same thing - only once when I got home.

We'll see how today goes.  I am hoping I don't feel the need at all.  I didn't yesterday....

Ask around. There are non-narcotic meds for migraines. As to the back pain. Ig he gets off and stay off the pain pills. He may find the pain level goes down. Many of us have experienced this.

You are correct and that's what the doctor has been telling him.  He is suppose to use it for his back and I know he is not in that much pain.  He has been able to modify his doings around the house so he doesn't lift too much or overdo it.  He likes them because they help him go to sleep and that is what he needs with a bad migraine.  There's got to be better things on the market!

Generally, opiates are not good for getting rid of headaches, especially migraines.

You know, I suppose I could find a way to see if he is actually addicted also.  I am only assuming.  But he uses these at least twice a day, 2 each time.  I'm wondering if what he is experiencing is the pain of w/d and not an actual bad headache.

I'll give it a shot, next time I see him open that bottle.  I still have 10 days before we can put in the 3 month Rx so that better be plenty of time to get off these for both of us or we may be having some real problems!

So he is not game on quitting with you?   sounds like there will be problems later for him if his doc cut him off...and it would be easier for u to quit if he quit as well....but u can only control u....i would get enough to taper with and stash them somewhere if u have to work....i was at ur dose and tapered down for ten days and took a long 4 day weekend off from work to quit....welcome and keep posting

Thank you all for the welcome and the future support!

I have no idea what my hubby takes as he is home all day (retired).  I do know he takes 2 or more a day most days to aleviate pain and bad headaches.  After reading up, I'm thinking some of the headaches are part of the withdrawal.  Although I do have a medical background he rarely takes my advice on such things as triggers for his migraines or drinking plenty of water - he's a very heavy soda drinker - so that is just nagging to him.  As soon as I get through maybe 2 weeks, this and next, then perhaps I can approach him and see how he handles it.  Whatever happens, we will be out of HC in 3 months.  His doctor has given him Tramadol as a replacement and you know, that kind of doesn't make sense.

My fear is that if I tell him about my addiction, he'll hide the pills and I'll have to go cold turkey.  Something I can't do as I'm the sole bread winner and can't take off sick for a week.  Vacation at this time is out of the question. *s*

I will share my plan with you soon.  I need to go to the store and see what I can buy.

I highly recommend the Thomas Recipe along with other aids.

Let us know what your plan will be.

What concerns me is that your hubby has taken them as long as you have.  Do you know how many he takes?

It will be hard not to relapse as long as they are available to you.  You'll find yourself wanting one just to feel normal.  Although you want off, the w/d's get so bad, it's not that you desire to get high again, just don't want to feel so bad.

Best Wishes.
