Starting subs Tuesday what to expect?

I'm starting subs Tuesday. What can I expect? I also want to start weaning right away and be off everything at 1 month. I just need the subs to help me they the worst if the w/d. I just don't have the time for the really bad w/d but I want my life back. Any advice? Thanks

I'm always the odd man out in with this topic. I'm always surprised to hear all of these sub horror stories. It's true that you need to be in wd's to start subs or it will bring on even worse withdrawals. This med helped me through my detox...I had a relatively mild detox considering my past usage and that was due to subs. I took a pretty high dose for a couple months then decided I didn't need it one day...not really sure why that happened but my ultimate goal was to eliminate meds from my life...not adding on. Anyways, I tapered for 2 days then threw the rest away...with basically no withdrawal. All I'm saying is everyone is different but I think if suboxone is used the way it's supposed to be used...as a sort of bridge from addiction to sobriety...I'm all for it and say listen to the opinions here but ultimately make your own decision. Good luck...

I forgot to add I do have lots of back and neck problems so I do have pain. I want off the fentanyl and Percs because I feel so blah, I have no energy and I'm depressed. I have never had any of these issues until after I was on opiods for about a year maybe a bit longer. I am afraid of the depression everyone says they experience when coming off opiods.
The other day when I bumped my patch from 50 to 25 for a day until I could no longer handle the w/d symptoms, I noticed the next day I actually felt happy. Like happier than I have been in a very long time. I actually enjoyed just being alive. So I have to wonder if that was due to the decrease of fentanyl in my system??? Whatever it was it was amazing to feel again.

Yes I get all my meds from a doctor. Yes I am using the subs to get me thru the worst if the withdrawals. I have 4 little ones at home and I can't be on my death bed for to long. How the nurse explained it to me was I just go into the doctor tomorrow he will talk to me then he just writes you a script. Then you do everything at home. She said he will have me stop the fentanyl and Percocet. Then when I'm in enough withdrawals I will start taking the subs until I get up to a dose that controls the w/d symptoms. I only plan on using them just long enough to get me thru the really bad part. So I want to start weaning myself off the subs the second day if I can. Or I thought I would just let my w/d symptoms start each time and if I can't tolerate ill take one. Then ill just keep doing that until one day I no longer need them. Can everyone let me know what they think good or bad ? I just know fentanyl patch is horrible to get off. I couldn't even take tapering down so I can't imagine how bad stopping cold turkey would be. I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond. This is my first ever time having to deal with bad w/d symptoms. I have been on Vicodin and Xanax in the past and stopped both cold turkey with very small symptoms. More just cloudy head than anything. I got the Vicodin and Xanax by prescription and the doctor knew I was stopping them cold turkey. I just added that in case anyone wanted to know it was 4-5 years ago.

I agree with Sarah. Subs aren't supposed to b used just to avoid WD. They should b used as part of a program. I kno for me when I was using I would get a few subs so I could kick and all it did was hold me over till my addict brain told me lies and used again. It wasn't until I found a great Dr and started working the program with counselling and a lot of hard work.also keep in mind u will still have some WD after the week of subs is over. Most ppl stay on the at least 20 days or a bit longer. I'd do some research on subs and the program and go from there. I'm not trying to b mean or discourage u at all is just like to see u get clean and STAY clean.

Fentsnyl is tough. If you're still using the Fentsnyl, I worry you'll be put in precipitate d withdrawal.  I would rather see you taper off the Fentsnyl, then the pills.  If you go slowly, it shouldn't be  too tough.

Hi hope. I have a question.. are u only taking subs so u don't go thru WD? Or did u want to do it as part of a program.? Also are ur subs going to b given by a Dr or off the streets?

Are you getting this from a doctor?  That's kind of a strange way to begin a Sub program....when are you stopping the fentanyl and percocets?  I only ask out of concern...

Yes I know I have to be in withdrawals enough or subs can make it worse. I know it won't be fun but I hope subs can get me thru the worst of it.

I'm on fentanyl patches and percocets. I have tried a couple times to bump the patches down but I just can't the w/d a horrible. So my plan is to get on subs but the second day taking them I'm going to start to wean myself after the first week or so I'm going to only take sub when I start getting w/d symptoms trying to extend the time each time. I know I will have withdrawals from the subs but pills are much easier to taper than the patches. So if I weren't on the patches I wouldn't even consider the subs

Subs will cause withdrawal all the same. If I can save another person from going thru this. I will try. I guess we are all diff but. Most everyone will tell you the withdrawal is all the same. Taperd or not the half life of the subs may prolong your withdrawal. Im not sure of your story or drug of choice. I was addicted to oxys for a year and ended up at a suboxone methadone clinic. I did methadone for three months taperd and switched to suboxone 8mg for one week and quit cold turkey. Im 13 days clean of everything. But I def feel like the methadone and subs both very strong opiates did more harm than good. I have went thru oxy withdrawal 3 to 5 days and i was good to go. I feel like since the methadone subs sucked the life outta me. My energy is so low i Cant sleep at night the depression is tough. There is no way not to go thru withdrawal. The subs is Just prolonging it. Im sorry Im not trying to come off rude or opiniated but I wish someone would have warned me and told me not to do it. Good Luck in your recovering.

Hi- I'm glad you posted this...Weaver is a great resource and he should see this and comment...

The first thing is the fentanyl. You'll need to stop it because you need to be in significant wd's to begin Sub.   Did you know that?

You have a plan and that's great! It's smart to taper off the sub as soon as you can as well. You'll do that slowly, I hope, to diminish the withdrawal from the Suboxone.  Good luck!
