I Need Help!! Oxycotton

It's hard for me to even begin with this, I am a 21 year old college student with A 3.5 GPA, it all started when I had Tommy john surgery for baseball when I was 18 and a senior in high school, I had 6 months worth of 10mg loratabs and I began to take them like I was supposed to but then got high and kept taking more and more as my tolerance built up so I could get high. Got up to about 12 a day and then when I was about to turn 20 I found 20 mg Oxycottons on the streets.  I got up too 120 mg a day.  But on a brighter note this is day 3 of me being off of them.  But I am struggling, I would like to know details about withdrawals, questions such as when will I feel good again.  Are their easy ways to detox, are their cheap detox facilities out there, I would like people to follow this thread and post for support. I would give a number out for someone willing to be a sponsor.  Are there any plans of things to help with withdrawals such as over the counter medicine or something I could get from the doctor to help alleviate some pains that come with all of this.  I just plain need help, I mean I've lost my life, missed out on so much. I gave up friends did things I wouldn't normally do.  I'm worried about making it to work and class with these w/d symptoms.  I don't want to do anything anymore.  But I don't know what to.  I don't do anything but sit in the house anymore, I've lost my social ability an personality.  My family has addictive personalities.  They have always chosen drugs over me and I've lived with my gmaw my whole life. Dads in jail for drugs.  I just want to turn my life around and see the world. I'm a good kid and very smart with a 3.5 in physical therapy.  I just need help. Someone please post

Exercised for 2 hours.  Lifted some weights, ran for 30 min, and played basketball for a little while.  Feeling really good after that, one of the more productive things ive done in a while.  I went from feeling horrible earlier to feeling like I could sleep like a baby, all in all one more productive day down.  Everythings going really good right now.  Trying to occupy my time.  I've also been out to the movie theater with some friends.  Actually got of the house and that little bubble.  Feeling really good about the day, and guess what Looking Forward To Tommorrow.

hi, you have done really well, i think withdrawals are a bit like a roller coaster, one day you think ,i can handle this, and it isnt too bad, then next it seems you feel like its a step back but it isnt ,its just part of it ,especially in the first week or so.  try to keep feeling positive, i think sometimes its like a little demon, trying to make us feel so rough , we will take again, but i know you wont, stay strong , it will pass, best wishes, god bless ,  sudie

Having a very hard last few hours, I think the cravings have set in, and I have absolutely no energy what so ever.  I'm trying to get foods down, thats easier said then done. I'm getting a lot of fluids down though. Still a little bit of the runs, and minor cold chills.  Getting bout 6-7 hrs of sleep a night but it's hectic.  Just feeling pretty down today now.  I'm having trouble now with work and school.  Don't really know what to do right now, just need a little help and advice.  Am I soon to start feeling better again, what about energy?  I try to use coffee or a 5 hour energy shot but it gives me the coffee jitters and the flushy anxiety feeling.  I just thought I was supposed to be feeling more energy and actually be able to get out of the house today.  Exercised twice by the way.  I just want to know when I will be able to get things done again.  Thanks for the help and please reply.

Just woke up everyone, I didn't sleep really well, but it's alright.  I really liked that saying don't get caught up in that expectation trap, cuz I dont feel as good today as yesterday.  But still better than the first couple.  But Along with everything that everyone else has posted such as baths and the other things to do, I find posting on here a big big help.  I try to spend as much time on here as possible if I'm bored.  Another thing I would suggest is music.  There's even a couple songs out there about coming off opiates and they give me chill bumps but inspiration.   I want to thank every single person that has posted on this forum, y'all have helped me more then y'all will ever realize, and I want to give the same confidence and words of advice to y'all.  Y'all can do it, just stick with it.  Good luck for everybody and just stay clean.

You certainly are a fast learner for sure :)..Alot of it is in one's head exactly like you say....I equate it as similar to a nicotine addiction..A habit in a daily routine

For me,, when I recognized I was in deep with the oxy, I couldn't believe how they snuck in and rewired my thinking process...This "justification voice" in one's head...And when I looked back at the progression,oh the picture got very clear for me real quick.. And lets say I got real pissed at myself  AND the pharmacutical Company's that promote this poison..Like their ""may cause some discomfort if stopped suddenly" warnings...Unbelievable!! (btw, I used that anger and resentment to my advantage..I directed that negative energy toward the pills )

And when I approached my Dr about how dependent I had become? And wanted a way out?,,he pulled his pad out and said we can try this, its not very addicting and will help not only getting away from the oxycontins, it will also offer some pain relief as well...Want to guess the name of the drug he was proposing?  Three guesses and the first two don't count ??

Tramadol of all things!!
Had it not been for this forum, I would have been free of the oxy only to be in the folds of tramadol wd's when the time came to walk..I couldn't believe my ears when he mentioned that to me...I told him "no way!" in no uncertain terms and explained why..I even directed him to take a look at the site here and see for himself what "real patients" who were prescribed that had to say.. And read how they went to H%^LL and back to free themselve's of that demon..

Enough story telling :)..Hope your day isn't too rough on you Waddel12..You really do sound like you have a good handle on whats going on..Keep up the good work and keep that positive attitude alive. It makes a big difference..:)

Nice job! Please, please, please keep reading everything you can about coming off the crap, it really helped me to know there were so many others that have been through it and offer their support! It's great you're kicking it so early in your life, there's a lot to look forward to! Hot baths, stretching, lots of water.

Finishing off another day.  It's crazy how much getting on here and reading helps me out.  I started feeling a little worse today, and can't really sleep yet, but just trying to think about the things I have left to do and the place and people to see.  Really thinking about family and wanting to spend time with them.  I hope I feel good tomorrow but like you said I won't let it get me down if I don't...I'm gonna get this month down then hopefully be all well.  I know it will still be a battle after that, but I hope and I know for me that if (no) when I make it that far it will just show my will power.  It's crazy, I haven't really had a craving yet, but I'm taking that as a good thing.  (knock on wood). Well good night all, and good luck, keep it up, most important think positively, it's hard but a lot of it is just in your head.  Give me some posts to wake up too for more support.  And take it one step at a time.

Yeah don't use sub off the street for just a few days.. It's not designed for that, and the reason it works on taking away the WD symptoms kwmaya, is because it's a very strong opiate- with a very long half-life (37.5 hours). It has replaced the opiate you were addicted to on your opiate receptors and once it's half life expires you may have withdrawal from it or the original drugs you are on- hard to say and the reason it's doctor prescribed with combination of therapy and aftercare after a certain amount of time. Not really something you want to recommend to someone as a tool for detox off of the streets....  I'm currently on a doctor prescribed 21-day detox on Sub after researching for over a year an countless failed attempts on staying clean and it's not to be taken lightly or recommended without a prescribing doctor.  Mine has a whole set of complementary meds for when I come off it as well as some other things to help with cravings.

To original poster- you got a lot of great advice to detox naturally and having a support structure and aftercare plan in place is really key- substance abuse counselor, AA/NA meetings, church, whatever.  The detox physical symptoms aren't the hard part- it's the mental games that cause you to pick back up again which aftercare is used for.

Hang in there and believe in yourself, we are all in the same boat and here for you and each other!

Yeah, alot of the mental will come from wanting your energy and sleep to come back which takes awhile longer..Might be a week ,might be two..It tends to wear on you as you get into the "day counting" mode..Just wanting more days to be done and to feel better than you do..Try not to dwell in it too much and keep doing what your doing. Be prepared for up and down days too..Today felt better than expected but tommorrow could be the opposite. Most of that settles after a couple weeks..Sleep may be a little rough for a couple more weeks. I'm telling you that so you don't get caught in what I describe as an "expectation trap"..Your doing good..Hang in there...Dav

Day 4, and I feel better then expected, got some things done today and had a very positive outlook.  I think the worst is behind me physically, but this is when the mental part comes in.

We don't really advocate taking Suboxone from a street puchase. Sub does work but has issues, too. It should always be used under doctor supervision, is still an opiate agonist, and is meant for use concurrent with an entire program of aftercare and therapy. Once off the Sub,there will still be a period of withdrawal. It's not a panacea...

Hey there, and congratulations! We're on day 3, and you're an inspiration. The things that have helped us through the first three days were suboxone. I'm brand new to them, and got them from a friend, not a doc, so we sort of experimented on our own. They're used to take away withdrawals (like methadone) but I hesitate to recommend them since you're already on day 4. We used them on day 1, 2, and 3 coming off 30 mg roxis, and they made life sooo much easier. They're also highly addictive, so for day 4 we're going without anything, People have been on methodone and suboxone for months and years, and we're hoping 3 days of the suboxone won't be too much of a withdrawal. Like I said, it's hard to say since you're so close to feeling good. Another popular suggestion from the Thomas Recipe seemed to be the l-thyrosine (sp?). We haven't tried, since we're broke from pills and can't afford the health food store, but people swore that increased their energy a TON. Just a thought. Again, congrats on toughing it out til day 4. You're almost over the hump and are an inspiration to us, as we're on Day 3.

Hi-   Good for you for wanting to put this behind you!    Yes,there is a med that is doctor prescribed and it does help with withdrawal. It's called clonidine.  At four days you may not need it anymore, though.

Be sure to eat well and drink as much as you can. Get rid of all your sources!  Exercise!
It really helps the lethargy...

You need support now. Try going to some AA meetings if you can. Getting clean is only half the battle. You need recovery care,as well.

Try some Melatonin ( an amino acid ) for sleep. Take 3, 1/2 hour before bedtime.

I can't stress the need for fluids enough!

Good luck and keep posting!

No no no......energy comes back a lot quicker than that....each day after 5 or 6 days it starts....No, it is not as quick as some may like but at 2 to 3 weeks you start to get back to normal and at a month you are usually good to go.....Do not let that effect your decesion to quit.  What you don't want is your habit to spiral out of control and have it effect your job or your school work.  Trust me, you have to be fully commited to quit or it will not work.....I was in your shoes a 100 times and let me tell you, I made up every excuse to keep using....bottom line is that there are only three ending to opiate use.. #1 Death, #2 Methadone or maintanance drug, #3 Detox and sobriety.....Those are truly your only options.

You can do this man....but you have to get it in your mind that you are truly done....You don't want to lose what you have worked so hard to accomplish....This is your chance to break the cycle and so your future family can enjoy a normal up bringing.  We are all here for you.....Let us know if we can help!

Welcome.....You are definitely in the right place.....It sounds like this is your first time detoxing so here is the long and short of it....In the upper right hand corner of this page you will see a health pages icon, navigate there and click on the Amino Therapy Protocol article.  This was originally designed for methadone addicts but works for other opiates as well.....Basically you are going to want to get a strong multivitamin, the suppliments on that article, and some protein powder.....You are already on day three so you are almost over the worst part.  You will start feeling better around day 5 or 6 and each day will be better and better.....You need to realize though that this is a serious addiction and it will not just be kicked overnight....This is a long process and it takes a lot of work to stay sober....You can do it and if you keep your fluid intake up and drink 2 protein drinks a day along with the suppliments then you will recoupe quickly.....It helps if you have someone to talk to and many suggest NA or AA.....Another quick tip, go get yourself some Valarian Root and some Melatonine....This stuff will be a life saver and will help you get some sleep at night.  You can take the Valarian throughout the day at school and work to calm you down a bit....Try to get some good lean protein and fresh fruits and vegetables down you whenever possible.....Like I said, you are almost over the worst of it....Hang it there, take lots of hot bath's and DO NOT USE!!!!  Good luck and God bless!
