Stoping 20 Percs a day

I have been taking 20 percs a day for about 6 mo now and I have finally decided I need to quit. How hard is it going to be and what pointers can you give me to help with the withdrawls. How long will the detox take?

Glad you are on your 16th day, that is a huge step. For me I just keep making myself stay busy. I have school, a husband, and 6 kids to care for so I didn't really have a choice. I'm also glad I have all that going on because it keeps my mind off of everything I am going through. I'm here any time you want to talk.

Hi, thanx for sharing your own experience. It's the 16th day clean for myself from taking Codeine and Tramadol. As you say, each day does get better indeed. But even now, for me, the low energy levels and mood swings are still a problem.Amino Acids, B complex etc work quite well for the low energy levels but the mood swings are really frustrating, Often I find myself in a state of mind when the slightest thing gets me crying n feeling sentimental, at other times, it's anger and irritability over small matters. Any insights and on dealing with the mood swings?

well you've mad a good decision to get out after 6 months, if you do this and find yourself giving up, think about if you wait another 6 months to quit? better now then later. it is doable with some will power and patience. best of luck

First off I wanted to say congrats on making the decision to quit. That is a huge step right there and you should already feel proud of yourself.

Now onto the withdrawls.. I am going to be honest. First everyone is different so you may or may not have all the withdrawls and it may or may not last that long. Here is what I went through and I was taking 30 percs a day for almost 6 years. I had the mood swings, hot/cold flashes, Pain in my legs and body, upset stomach, had the urge to throwup but never did. I couldn't get myself out of bed so the energy part was gone. That lastest for about 4 days and then I noticed each day got alot better. I am now 30 days clean and I remember I couldn't go 2 hours without the pills. I have all my energy back and I feel great. Right now I have to retrain my brain to live life without pills.

You can do this and we are all here to help. There is no way I could have done it without the support of this forum. If you need to send me a PM I am here for you.

Take care and remember you will feel like **** but that part is for a short time and you will feel so much better.

Percocet [oxycodone] as you might know is an 'opioid analgesic'. Opioid withdrawals are more or less the same for different kind of opioid's, they may just vary in intensity from person to person and for different kind of opioids.
For example Codeine withdrawals are not even half as bad as withdrawals from Heroin is. Stopping opioid drugs cold turkey can be extremely painful but it's not medically dangerous as is the case for barbiturates. A tried and tested formula for detoxing from Opioids is the Thomas Recipe, it will allow you to quit Percocet with the least amount of pain possible. Check out detailed information for detoxing from Opioids here:-  http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/985

Your length of addiction is low, but the drug itself and the amount you take are definately going to put you in some pretty harsh w/d.  Have you ever been addicted to anything else and quit?  The reason I ask is because if you are a repeat offender like so many of us it wouldn't hurt to look in to getting help from an addiction specialist.  There are clinics, doctors, psychiatrist, etc...all you have to do is get on the internet and see what is available in your area.

Good luck to you!
