Suboxone withdrawl:

I have been on suboxone for 1.5 years. I cheated hear and there for the first few months. Well now its been a good year and I have been clean. I Am nervous to quit the suboxone after reading all the crazy messed up stories. I am going to start my taper tomorrow morning. I take a full pill a day. Tomorrow, I will start with a quarter pill in the morning. Then in the evening I will take the other quarter. Any advice for me on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
E. Robin

It was way to hard! I started getting serious w/d's. I raised the dosage back up to 1/3 of a tablet of Suboxone. That will be fine. I will run with that for a while! Then taper from there! Cutting the dosage in half was making me ill. Just an update, thats all

Thanks for all the support,
E.

I know it only day 2. However, Going from a full tablet to a half was easy. The only symptom so far is I feel sluggish. I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer my question.

Thanks,
Evan R.

Good advice above...for sure you want to take your time and get down as low as possible before quitting. I was only on sub for 18wks, started at 8mgs and didnt start to taper for about month. I rather quickly got down to 2mgs/daily without any problems, after that I took it pretty slow until I was just taking a tiny piece, probably .25mgs before I finally stopped. Ive gone through other opiate detoxes with oxy's/methadone and for me suboxone wasnt quite as harsh physically, it wasnt easy but somewhat more bearable. The good piece of advice is really try and stay positive, go into it willing to fight for your recovery. Ive been off sub since Oct.08, I slipped once for 5days but besides that have been enjoying the independence of being clean. Just remember that you can do this...I wish you the best of luck, take care

ur dr is rxing these to u..he needs to know where u stand and what ur plan is...if he is not going to help u taper after u tell him u want to..that is a different story i guess..but most drs would help..and u may need his help in case u experience and anxiety or insomnia etc..he is rxing them to u..u walk in and say "i decided to taper without telling u and i feel like dog **** and I need help"   he isnt gonna appreciate that... i wouldnt

for most getting to 4 mgs is easy..but go slow..ask ur dr for advice...people go real slow after the 4 mg mark...dont go to fast as u will feel helpless and lost...sub is not a drug to just taper down in a week and stop without feeling some serious wds...do it slow..do it right..and tell ur dr so he can at least have the chance to help u

Because you started the program with your doctor I presume. and, most important, we as addicts "self-medicate" so once again you are taking matters into your own hands.

You also admitted that you slipped up a few times. My concern is that you think you have this now and are going to try it alone. I have done it so many times and gotten myself in trouble.

I am just going to do it! Why do you suggest that I talk to my doctor?

Hi,

I so hope you are going through this taper with your doctor and not trying it by yourself?

I think it is great that you are ready to get off but again hope that you are doing it under medical supervision.
