9 days clean today, but am I crazy?

I am new to this site, but have been reading everyone's posts throughout the week. Today is my 9th day off of Vicodin 7.5 (taking up to 6 a day). I am FINALLY feeling better this evening with a little help of my doctor. Which is part of why I finally decided to post something on here. Here's my question, I went into his office and told him everything that's been going on, (I quit cold turkey October 7th and have been going through absolute hell ever since). So he asks what my symptoms are and I say nauseua, vomiting, diarehha (sp?), chills and a fever. He checks me out, the usual blood pressure, listens to my lungs etc. And this is the kicker....he says to me "Well what I'd like to do is put you back on it, only a lower does (meaning the 5mg) and taper you down for 15 days" And gives me a script for 30 tabs as well as a script for lomotil and zofran. What the heck was he thinking?? I was shocked to hear that he was just willing to hand me ANOTHER script for something that I just got done telling him I was addicted to!! So I walked out & called my husband who has been there for me every step of the way thank GOD and asked him what he thought I should do. And he said do NOT fill it! So I went to the pharmacy and ended up filling it just so I could come home and FLUSH the entire bottle down the toilet.  It felt amazing! There is NO way in hell I could just go back and taper myself off, I do not have the willpower to do that & I don't know anyone that would. I just want to make sure I'm not nuts to think that what my doctor did was a little weird?

Also, I want to let everyone else know that is just starting out, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will start to feel better soon. Faith and my husband are the 2 things that have gotten me through these 9 days & hopefully the next 90 years!

I went to see the doctors because I couldn't keep anything in my system & the vomiting was starting to scare me. Plus I wanted to tell him about my addiction & to NEVER fill it for me again. And thank you :) Today is day 10 and I'm feeling better and better each day.

I'm just curious ... If you've been clean for 9 days, why did you even go see the Dr now?

I am not real sure why you filled that script either but am glad you flushed it.  I would look for a different doctor as this one is too easy and with this addiction that is the last thing we need.      Congrats on your clean time!!         sara

Did you flush just the vicodin or the lomotil also? The reason I'm asking is because lomotil is an opiate cousin. The active ingredient diphenoxylate, which helps with the diarrhea is also the cousin to what causes constipation in opiate drugs. However lomotil does have atropine in it to keep someone from abusing it, but it can be done. Trust me. I have, and if you recently tapered off an opiate drug lomotil can send you back into mild withdrawal if you're on it for long periods of time. I'm not sure how mild the withdrawal is though because I did abuse it and had normal opiate-like withdrawal. If you do need something for diarrhea take immodium instead.

Congrats on the 9 days!!!  I would talk to another doctor.  I saw my family doctor when I first got clean and he told me that they get about a 30min session in regards to addiction during medical school.  I don't know if that is still true today but it sure does explain a lot.  LOL!!!  The only reason my dr. understood it is because his son is a recovering addict.  I gotta admit filling a script just to flush em sounds crazy but I like it!!  I'm sitting here with a big smile and giggling about it as I'm typing.  Anyway,  keep up the Good work!!

Maybe your doctor just doesn't understand addiction and how to deal with it. There may not have been bad intentions, but alot of them just don't know what to do. I don't know , but I have heard of other doctors doing that to try and ease people's wd's. Not the best policy I guess. That's the best reason I can think of for it. Congrats on 9 days!

I don't get why you paid for the prescription just to flush it. That is scary. I truly think you need to find a new doctor. Remove yourself from all temptation. You did it once, you may do it a second time but the third time you may not. So protect yourself. Doctors are a dime a dozen...you only have one life.

Congrats on 9 days!
