may also help us to know what medical problems he is dealing with?
I agree. If he is going to several different doctors and they are unaware of him being on other medications, they may prescribe a medication that works similar. while cymbalta may treat major depression it is also used for anxiety disorders. It can also be used to treat a chronic pain disorder called fibromyalgia, and to treat neuropathy pain. The Wellbutrin is specifically for depression, so there is some concern here because if he uses the cymbalta, he shouldnt need the wellbutrin. But.....we are all different. Check to see if the same DR prescribed them...it should be on the bottle. Only time i've seen these two used together, is when the pt uses multiple doctors, and doesn't disclose all their meds correctly.
Trazadone is a cheap and effective sleep aid (even though it is classified as an antidepressant). It makes people so sleepy, that it isn't used to treat depression, and used as a sleep aid. The ambien is a very strong sleep aid. I'd suggest only using that one if the trazadone hasn't worked within a couple hours (after taking the max dose prescribed on the bottle of traz).
If you attempt to meet w/his DR, he won't disclose any info to you anyway. Taking a list of medications to a local pharmacy and asking the pharmacist about the meds is a good idea, that will give you a little peace of mind.
when i am working with someone on a long list of medication i get them to write down all their meds
then i will point out that some of the meds they are taking are for the same symptom and one can be stopped
for example, trazadone and ambien are sleeping pills, trazadone was used years ago for depression, not so much these days, plus your son is taking cymbalta and welbutrin for depression, i have not seen these 2 drugs being used together
then i figure out how many doctors they have, how many pharmacies they use
do you have a complete list of meds and doctors?
what is your son diagnosed with?
you may have to meet with his doctor.......
the trazadone and ambien are sedative, and the cymbalta, welbutrin, and asthma meds are know to cause feeling similair to uppers, this maybe contributing to him having to take the sleeping meds, asthama meds alone can cause insomnia, but i am not an expert, so the best thing to do is make that list and take it to his doctor or pharmacist
