does anyone else react this way?

i had a very uncooperative tooth pulled friday. gave the pain pills to my hubby to hold. they offered me percs but i told them tylenol 3's would be fine. haven't taken any. don't want to. but my question is this; do amoxicillins knock you out? i feel like i am taking quaaludes( only slight exaggeration). they are 500 mg caps with the awfullest smell and taste. i don't even want to drive my car. i was useless trying to grocery shop yesterday. i really have to finish these things because the infection was all down in my jaw, and i want to make sure it is wiped out. i know i am. hope you are all hanging in there. we've had the most beautiful weekend. sway

thank you all for responding. i have eaten 'real yogurt' just about every day ever since i can remember. hope my tummy is ok. antibiotics have always made me sleepy. maybe because i am clean i am just noticing it alot more. i have to take 2 a day. i am going to take them in the evening and during the night now til they're gone, because i do have some driving to do today. will be extra cautious. got it pulled on a friday. didn't think this qualified as an emergency warranting a weekend call which would have gone thru the hospital and pulled dentist off the golf course. i will call him this morning though
funny how street drugs never really worried me, but give me an rx for something that is not abused as far as i know, and woe! thanks again. i'll post later with an update
codean, i eat the good old fashioned fruit on the bottom with active cultures. is that not good enough to restore my intestinal flora? i am addicted to my yogurt honey. sway

i wouldn't worry about it. don't drive if you don't feel right but i have felt bad from amoxil too. yeah i had that horrible taste/smell too. just finish the course off, it's really bad to stop halfway through. see your dr if you must, but at least get his advice before thinking about stopping them.

I think cripe's right, check it out cos that doesn't sound right to me, that's a pretty basic somple antibiotic, not one of he real powerful ones that can leave you feeling a bit weird - but most of all - well done on refusing the pain meds!

I'm not a doctor, but I do have a masters degree in biotech so I know a little about bacteria, so, one thing I'd add just in case you don't kow, antibiotics are pretty indiscriminate, they'll take out your infection, but they'll also potentially have a good go at the healthy bacteria in your gut that you don't want atacked, so it's a really good idea to take either acidopholus tablets or pro-biotic yoghurts etc -anything that encourages healthy bacteria growth in your gut. Don't know what it's like in the US but here in the UK docs are notorious for not bothering to point that out to their patients - at least they're getting better about not prescribing anti-biotics indiscriminately here...

I havn't had that reaction to the antibiotics but, maybe you are allergic to them?  Or because they are such a high dose, they are kicking your in the "butt" so to speak?  Have you asked your dentist about it?  Or have you asked the pharmacist?  That might be kinda dangerous for you to be having these reactions.  That makes me worry that you might get hurt or have some type of permanent damage from the meds if they are making you feel like that, worry worry worry wart  - that is me, ask your dentist just in case.
