Hello and Welcome to the forum, first off congratulations on taking the first step to getting your life back. Unfortunatley sometimes our spouses don't understand how to deal with all of this. There is a forum on medhelp named "Living with an Addict" which may help her to understand more. Just go to the forum page and click on it.

Now you need to get yourself setup and ready to go through CT. The first thing you should do is look into the Thomas Recipe it can be found on the bottom right of this page. Get the ingredients call out in the recipe (minus the valium) it helped me tremendously through my w/d. Keep yourself nourished and hydrated as this is also a big help. So get yourself some ensure or any other protein drink. Next get some thing like gatorade or just plain water and flush flush flush those toxins away. You will feel like you have the flu for 5-7 days and it will get better after that. I will pray for you and remember when things get rough YOU CAN DO THIS. I will pray for you God Bless---Rick

I feel you man. My wife looks at me like a stranger. She's only here for the 8 and 10 year old we have together. I kept relapsing over and over and was about to lose them. Methadone 100-200mg a day for years is my monkey. Are you with a doctor or do you get em on the streets like me? That really pissed my wife off. I told my wife all my embarrassing secrets and even told my kids. Told friends, doctors, everyone that I was out of control and she is barely starting to believe I'm for real this time. This forum is a great place to vent, learn, and make new friends. We can do this and our families will believe it when they see it. On another note, for the wife, that's a large amount to go cold turkey, try not to sef up for relapse. Your kids will think he's dieing. Mine did when I quit 150mg meth to nothing. Can you taper him down and keep the pills hidden and give less each day? Read the Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol at the bottom of this page also, it helps a lot with withdrawal. This is a horrible life and nobody ends up here on purpose. Well, that's a long post, I'll be back later and more will be here soon. Good luck and God bless us all, we need it.

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I read your original post and you confirmed my first question - you're taking up to 100 10/325's a day - or a 1000 mg of hydrocodone and 32,500 mg of acetominophen - In my opinion you should go to Urgent care and  straight to detox!  That is a HUGE amount of pills you're taking.  You're taking your life in your hands every day that you consume that amount.  I'm not being harsh here, just realistic.  Please do this as soon as possible.

Best of luck to you...

Sandy

Have you had a liver panel blood test to check if you have any damage yet? If not you should. Since you have quit no further damage will happen but you should still talk to your doctor and let hi/her know what you are trying to do. You may be suprised on the help they just might give you

Have you talked to your wife about looking into the Living with an addict forum? It may help her to understand. Good luck to you and God Bless---Rick

hey check back in with us. the amount of pills that you were taking is an EXTREME dose of opiates and acetaminophen. your heart rate is going to go through the roof. i would consider going to the hospital for detox or at least the er so they can monitor you.

I  wanted to ask you how you've been feeling physically - Have the withdrawals hit yet?  They usually would by now, but at such a high dose I really don't know what you should expect.

Keep posting so we know how you're doing.

In my opinion I really think you should seek immediate care.

I did go for detox and even asked to be put into impatient. I have great insurance too, pay almost $650 for it but they said that  for the pills I was taking they would NOT put me there.  I told them I was afraid I was gonna die with the amount I was taking and this guy just kept telling me   he will give e meds to dexox on.  Even said he would give me methadone  but that can become addective  too, I dont wan tto trade one for the other....I   just want to be off and clean. He just didnt seem to care. I did sent a message to my insurance customer  care about him. Get this....I told him that my wife has never been around something like this and he cut me off and said "i'm  not here  for  your marital problems"  what a ****. I was trying to talk to him about my concerns  coming off and he just wanted me  out of his office, looked at me like a loser drug addicted and  shund me out. Anyway, I appreciate everyones help and kind words here. This WILL help me through this as I do feel very alone right now. Thanks again.

What type of detox meds did they give you?

You really should go straight to the ER. They can monitor you.  Can your wife take you there? Tonight?

Let us know.

I have a friend who was on 1600mg of OC a day and ended up in a coma for two weeks. He woke up on suboxone, just barely. Be careful like all the others are posting. You may need medical attention, especially with all the acetomenaphine. My wife would have to hit my chest until I started breathing again when I was sleeping. Even so, I couldn't slow down and I ended up on subutex and now feel that tapering is finally possible for me. Do you know a doc you can talk to about suboxone or subutex? Be careful, please, and keep us posted.

i am sorry you were treated like that, you are a person who deserves to be treated with respect,  i am glad you reported him and i hope he looses his job, its obvious thats not the right job for him. he was an a ss.
if you start to feel too bad please go to the er, increased heart rate is one of the symptoms of opiate detox. take immodium for your stomach, it is important to stay hydrated, try to eat small bits of food, even just crackers to start with.
you will get through this. one step at a time.
have you thought about seeking counseling and or attending support groups such as na or aa.
keep moving forward.

Welcome.........

You're in pretty deep. The good news is there's a way out.

We all been where you are in one way or another. First things first. If you have crossed over in to addiction, the reason is not important. It's now a fact about yourself.

I cannot take opiates , If I have them I will abuse them...., guaranteed.

So getting off the meds is priority one. Make a plan for after you're past the dextox. If you are taking heavy doses then by all means seek medical help to assist in the withdrawl. The folks on here know whats good and whats not for that,

Do this only for yourself right now, Take this time to get YOU together again. All that other stuf will fall in to place. If you're not healthy everyone  around you is affected, and voer time won't even matter.

Few days of feeling like death warmed over is worth a life time drug free,,

Take your life back man

If I am not mistaken, if you go to your employer and tell them you have a drug addiction they have to get you into treatment, and hold your job.. GOD, has kept you alive, that is a unheard of amount to take, for me. Just curious did you take them orally? Or by other means? Dear LORD, you have got to shake this, you sound detemnined and ready and strong.. My prayers for you and your family.. Honestly, YOU are a MIRACLE, to still be here, don't waste it! GOD Bless you!

Good morning sd....

How are you feeling today?  I imagine pretty awful.  I'm hoping that you sought medical care, but if not, there are things you can do to make your withdrawal a bit less painful.  As said before, if you read the Thomas recipe at the bottom of your screen, you will find some tools there to help ease some of your withdrawal symptoms.  Make sure you take vitamins - a good multi vitamin, b6 and b12, and a good calcium/mag/zinc supplement.

Staying hydrated is SO important - drinks like gatorade with electrolytes in them are best.  Try and eat when you can - even if you don't feel like it - it will help. Protein shakes are easy and have alot of nutrients in them. Immodium is also a must.

If you are not seeking urgent care, try to get to the doctor for some meds that will help you detox - clonidine is a blood pressure med, and a small script of xanax will help with the anxiety.  Be careful with the xanax - it's addictive as well.

Keep us updated on how you're doing, and once you get past the worst of the detox, start thinking about some form of aftercare  - NA or one on one counseling are a good place to start.  But for right now, you need to get through these withdrawals.

Well wishes....

An addict, putting off quitting?!?

The H3LL you say!!!

Trust me dude, I'll bet you if you poll each and every addict here, they'll tell you that at one time or another, they wanted to stop/quit, but made an excuse to keep going.

I must have made 10,000 excuses before I finally stopped, and finally, the ONE excuse that I couldn't get around, was that I was going to DIE if I continued.

I was taking upwards of 60 10/325 Norco, 135mg dilaudid and 150mg opana spread throughout a single day, and went C/T (as you have done). I tell you what I was taking, not so that you'll say "wow", but so that you'll know that there IS hope.

Because if THIS addict can do it, so can YOU.

Peace Brother. My thoughts are with you.

Hi sd!

I'm so glad to see you posting.  I know the detox meds are making you really groggy, but considering the dose you were at, it's better by far than the through the roof anxiety you'd be feeling without them.   18 hours of sleep is alot, but it will help your body to repair itself, so it's a good thing in the short run.

It will probably taking you a little longer than usual for you to start feeling normal again, considering the dose you were on, but you're already at Day 3, which is amazing.  You're a lucky man.

I know I'm repeating myself here, but when you're awake, make sure you try and get some fluids in you - Gatorade or other drinks with electrolytes are best.  Also, if you're having a hard time eating anything, have your wife pick up some protein drinks  - Ensure is good, anything that is fortified with protein and vitamins/minerals will help.  There is a Whey protein drink that's great - it has all of the essential amino acids your body needs to get moving again.

Make sure you move around a bit as well - if you're sleeping that much you want to keep your circulation going when you're awake.

Last, keep us updated.  Post often so we know how you're doing.

You can do this!

Wow, three days, that's awesome. It really does blow you away how screwed up you can be and out control and your kids just love you and wait for you to get better. It's a miracle to me. I have been half present a lot and sick a lot. I had so many excuses not to hang with my kids, but as soon as I admitted my problems and how much I needed their help, they gave me 100% and still are. They are going out of their way to hug me and remind me why I need to be clean. Ultimately I'm doing it for me and I'm the one who has to not take that first dose, but my family loves me so much they would take my suffering on themselves. It's a miracle. Keep it up and keep posting. You are inspiring others. Thank you.

I really didn't want to quit.   I lied to myself about them, and true enough...I wasn't taking them by the handfuls like some other people I have known.   Before I started taking them....I was super reluctant to take any kind of narcotic meds.  The first one I ever took, my husband and I and a friend of his were going somewhere to pick up a stove I had bought.   It was a vintage stove, and we had to drive about 100 miles.  I had a bad toothache, and my husband's friend gave me a hydrocodone.   It took care of the toothache and made me feel good.   He ended up giving me several.  I convinced myself that I needed them because I had bad knees.   So I went to a doctor...an old pill pusher...and came home with a script for 120.   Sometimes he would forget and give me 180.

I liked the way they made me feel, and I'd probably still be taking them, except I broke out in a horrific rash all over my body.   I had to quit lying to myself and realize what I was doing to my body.   I have always had perfect health.   What a fool I would be to ruin it.

When I quit, my husband had just had knee surgery and he was given 7.5/325 hydros.   So when I quit, there were still hydros in the house.   But I wasn't really tempted to take any.   It did cross my mind, but I wanted to get healthy and lose a few pounds, and even at my age...almost 66...I decided I wanted to start riding again, and if I lost 45 lb. and felt like I could be in decent enough shape to get on a horse again, that was going to be my reward.   The pills are gone from the house now....I told my husband, "believe me...you don't want to get involved with those."   He said he had good will power and no way would he do that.   After a couple of days though, he gave them away.   He said he wasn't going to take any more.   I think he saw how sick I was and didn't want to go down that road.

Hang in there now.   I will be honest and tell you that I am just now getting any energy back after a month off of them.   I am feeling a little better every day, and I am not haunted by constantly wishing I had a pill to take.
You can do this too!
