mephedrone addiction - trying to become abstinent. Please help

Hi. I have had an addiction to mephedrone/ Mcat for nearly years. I take it every day just to help me get by with everyday tasks. The last time I was off it was a week, that was last year when I was on holiday. The feeling I got was amazing from not using. I could think clearly, my sense of humor came back.I have gone two days abstinent so far, and am struggling with the depression, anxiety and lack of energy, with just wanting to sleep.

Can anyone give me any tips for dealing with this please. What would be the best foods to eat in order to help give me energy back and to deal with the withdrawl? How long will the depression and anxiety also last for, when would I start to have the energy back?

Any help would be so so appreciated. Thank you. T

The uppers are rough because its a lot mental! I was big on uppers, but try eating bananas, meats, cheeses, they contain an amino acid l-tyrosine, which is a big thing your body needs to make feel good chemicals and energy, you can even get it as a supplement at health stored.also, b vitamins. Good luck! You can do this!

sorry the above post probably wasn't very helpful

i think with powerful stimulants you're going to have short term side effects and then adjust to more subtle longer term cravings which can be quite wearing. I have a friend who used to inject crystal meth quite regularly but every 12 months are so the cravings finally build up and its all he can think about so he has to do it.

Woah I found it was hard enough trying to quit using it every couple of weeks let alone every day. It literally go insane using it every day, but then again I am a binger so the idea is to get as ****** as possible.

Thanks Tom, but you are the star! Have you made any progress in getting clean? Please keep us updated. It is very hard to make that leap and say no more, ever. It gets easier after that. Have you researched w/d symptoms for bath salts? You may want to do that so you know what to expect, as I always say knowledge is power. Take Care and don't be a stranger! XXX Carrie

Hey bud, throwing support your way.  I was a long time amphetamine user years ago.  Not fun dealing with the lethargy and depression afterward.
Food....I noticed you asked.
Stay away from all processed foods.
Eat clean and live......fruits vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains(quinoa / amaranth) are a couple.
Sugar is an enemy....try to abstain.
Most important..water..water....water...makes a huge difference.
If you can't exercise, then just walk, walk until you eventually get more energy, then amp up the routine and find something that really works you out.  The more you move, the more you'll want to move.

Great advice above.....you're gonna be fine
Peace /hugs

Hello Tom and welcome. It is important to stay away from the people, places and things associated with your addiction.

Exercise to get your natural brain chemistry to  repopulate.
Congrats on your clean time. It is going to take some time to counter balance the time you used. Please be patient with the process.
Seek out as much support as possible, substance abuse groups, counselors, church, accountability with a family member of clean close friend.
Build up your body with a clean, healthy diet and vitamins.

There is freedom from the chains and bondage of addiction.
Keep the faith.

Im always on here if you need some support or to chat to get out of your head. I did want to mention b4 I got clean I felt I needed no aftercare, but after being on here a bit, it isn't a bad idea to seek out an addiction counselor, or u may be a meeting person, I am not but I digress.I have my first appt. Monday and I am hopeful it will help. You may also need to be under a doctors care through this, they can give you meds to help and a lot of them can be used safely, if properly monitored, I did bath salts for a week and I looked like I was in liver failure my eyes were yellow and my skin was grey, I am proud of you for being alive! Keep in touch, I friended you,btw XOXO CarrieAnne

I had no idea what his DOC is, but I thin some of the same things we do for opiate withdrawal will be helpful. Sorry for my ignorance Tom! :)

HI  Tom, I am not really familiar with your DOC, but I have some tips that have helped me, I am 16 days clean off a 3 yr suboxone habit. Before you jump off, start taking vitamins, The Thomas Recipe, which you can find on here, is what I am doing, it is tailored for w/d to ease the symptoms.Drink tons of water or even Gatorade, you do not want to get dehydrated, it will only make the pain worse. Keep posting every day, the people here are so kind and supportive and will help you so much, right now this site is my lifeline, you cant do this alone, I hope you have some sort of support around you, you need that too..My best advice is get out of your head and stay positive, if you lay around all day telling yourself youre miserable, you will be, I just kept telling myself that Im ok, Im alive,Im not feeling that bad, life will be good again. say it over and over and over, you have to fake it til you make it. Also hot hot showers and Epsom salt baths do wonders for aches and pains. There is also a product out there called withdrawal ease, it is a little expensive , about 100 dollars but I have heard may good things about it, but look up the Thomas recipe first.Valerian root, melatonin and skullcap all help with anxiety and insomnia, but I take trazadone at night to get my whole 4 hours of sleep. Stay Strong, you can do this if you really want to and we will all be here for you. Keep us posted! XOXO CarrieAnne

Hi honey:

I'm glad you want to stop doing this drug.   Stimulants are very damaging to the body.

I have to ask:  is mephedrone bath salts?  Are you snorting them?

It might be a good idea to get a physical and see if you are okay medically.  I don't have any experience with getting off speed, except, that I know it is mostly mental.  I had a friend who started with cocaine I the 80's and 90's, and the the 00's, had graduated to crack.

Luckily she stopped doing it and the effects were mostly depression and anxiety.

I'm sure someone will come on here with more knowledge than I.  Good luck; you've made the right decision!
