im in the similar situation. ive been on methadone for 5 years. i ve been tapering down for the last 2 yrs. im also on a low dose, 8 mgs. lately ive been feeling symptoms, aches pains no sleep. my counselor suggested to stop the tapering for a week or 2 and let my body catch up. if you can draw it out a little longer go for it. figure this, you came so far already, whats the rush.

hi welcome to the forum...well wow..and congrad's on your taper
10ml is a milestone...and yes it can be uncomfortable ...I just did what your doing I got 18 days clean today...im sorry i dident see your post sooner...well as far as being comfortable ..its tuff at the lower dose's
I came off 150mg over 8 1/2 mo and it was a grind from time to time
especially in the end...you just have to get "ok without being ok" for a wile..it is only temporary and it will be over b/4 you know it...I to struggled at 10ml and below I did 1ml a week below 10ml and it was tuff but defiantly doable..you need to use the symptoms to strengthen your resolve to quit..I would tell myself "nothing is going to have such control over me" and make a positive out of a
negative  its your mind that has to become your bigest asset threw this thing...when I tapered below 7ml I would feel 4 days of withdrawals each ml  my phyc dr said i had to take it down to 1 ml
to avoid a manic episode ( im bi/polar) so I walked it down to 1ml b/4 I jumped...my final withdrawals where sorta a combo of the last few ml/drops it wasn't anny worst then the withdrawals during tapering
just lasted 7 days and kinda hung around for 14 days on and off
I still get a bad day here and there but for the most part I am starting to feel better each day that passes ...you need to just hang in there your at a dose that you could jump off at although if I had it my way I woulda jumped at 5ml but my dr sayed otherwise so i kept tapering...right now its a mind game you have to win..and if you made it to 10 ..in my eyes you have one it already.... again your
only going to be uncomfortable for a little wile longer if you look at it as a small part of the rest of your life...and being methadone free is so so worth it....best of luck to you and god bless....Gnarly

If it is possible for you to schedule some down time, then my suggestion to you would be that you are down low enough that you could just jump if you chose too.I jumped off of 25mgs,after being on it for almost 2 years. The first 2 weeks were rough,by week 3 I could function through out the day.It took me about 6 weeks before I felt as though I had truly turned the corner.Again,it depends on what you're daily schedule is and I know it's not always possible to be out of commission for 2 weeks.I'm sure more will come along to help you out with adjusting your taper,if you choose to taper all the way down.Along with gnarly, theeagle is a good person to ask about this also.Best of luck to you...Kim

I just read your post and I was concerned that you did not get any responses to your question on Nov 1st. So I added this comment to bring it back up to the top of the list.

Although I don't know methadon I do know narcotics and It sounds like you are bravely trying to taper off. Have you discussed any guidelines for this with doctor? nurse? NA people? 9 years is a long time and a slow slow taper seems the safest. What symptoms are you experiencing? Let us know.

Please keep in touch and keep posting. I am sure someone will be more helpful than me.
