I don't mean to resurrect this thread, but I'm new here and wanted to respond if that's o.k.
I was a Norco 10/350 25 a DAY user for over a year. I found out I was pregnant when I was 7 weeks along and was so ashamed and scared I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror.
Long story short, I was sent to the methadone clinic because I had flushed the pills I had left to detox and was told that quiting CT would more than likely make me miscarry the baby. As I grew so did my dose of methadone. I started at 20mg and was at 70mg when my baby was delivered. She was 6 weeks early, 4 1/2 pounds, 17 in long. NONE of that was due to the methadone. My placenta stoped working due another issue but was told from Dr. that methadone had NOTHING to do with it. They've been using Methadone in pregnancy for a long time now.
It was a blessing for me. I was EXTREMELY fortunate as well. Although preemie, my daughter was born perfectly healthy. Apgars were 9 and 9, she didn't spend one second in the NICU and we even went home a day early. She was tested and my body absorbs things FAST--this is why she didn't have withdrawals, she didn't have any methadone in her system.
There are however, babies that do have to stay in the NICU and/or have to take a med with methadone properties in order to detox them after they are born.
Good luck to you!!

What you need to do is contact a high risk Obstetrician asap. I find it very hard to believe that the baby won't be born with dependencies. You need to be having this baby in a Hospital where the NICU is available. I don't believe that a Mid-Wife is safe at this point unless she is present in a Medical atmosphere.
This baby has a chance of real dependence and it could do real harm at birth. You have to remember that the Baby will no longer be getting the everyday medication that the Mother has presented to him/her once the umbilical cord is cut. That Baby is on it's own. Doctors will have to intervene at that point and assess the Baby as to what drugs he/she has been exposed to.
Please listen to this advise and call a High Risk OB Specialist. Make it a safe delivery for your Son or Daughter.
Take care and good luck with the delivery.

i'm currently pregnant as well and an opid dependant, i was on suboxone and they told me to get on methadone, i'm currently on that. i see a mid wife and she says it's the safest. there is also a possibilty that when the baby is born there will be no addiction to the methadone. the withdrawl is more harmful on the baby then anything. just make sure your doctor knows everything. she's not alone. i know exactly what you guys are going threw.
For a possible alternative to suboxone please read:

Please discuss with Nutritional Doctor or a Clinical Nutritionist.
That sounds like a tough situation. The Suboxone could be harmful, but I would guess the trama of withdrawl would be even worse on a fetus. Call your local pharamacy for information.
