my quote

I just shared a quote with Kaly that I wanted to share with all of you because i read it when I was feeling weak and alone and it made me feel better.  My doctor (one that does not prescribe me hydros) said to me that I am stronger than I think because if I could actually take all these pills without keeling over and dying than that is saying something about my body and my drive to live.  Anyway, the quote is this: Junkies might be easy to knock down, but they are never fragile.  They have souls like old leather shoes studded with steel.
I took it to mean we are stronger and tougher than we may think from all the pain and suffering we have gone through  and if we can use that strength to channel into good things than we can lives even better and fuller than some people who may go their whole lives without fighting addiction but without ever really knowing themselves either.
Anyway, it was just a thought I wanted to share with those of you who are awake.
Good night.

That quote is exactly right.   Addicts have to be stronger, especially  in order to come clean, by necessity.

Some (many) average Joe's (Mary's) go through life with the normal problems of life, which can be trying (death in the family, unemployment, lost loves, etc.), but the addict faces so much more, and must be so much stronger.

That is exactly why I admire so many people on this forum.  Not only do they go through the hell of withdrawal, anxiety, depression, doubt, guilt ..but...they share their hearts on this forum.  I'm not real religious, but this reminds me of the prodigal son in the Bible, when the "good" son asked God why God was heaping so much praise on the prodigal son who returned after much sin, when he, the good son, had always been faithful. I don't exactly remember God's reply but it was something about the wayward son being special mostly because he sinned and came back. Thats how I feel about the people on this forum, special because they are fighting so hard to get back.
