terrified of getting off methadone

I have read alot of what others have to say, and I am so scared to come off methadone. I have 2 kids and cannot be sick like that. How can I function with two small boys? I have been on the program for about 5 years now. I am on 120mgs. The clinic I go to is an hour and a half away and I cannot afford it any longer. I dont know how to go about finding a doctor in town willing to help me. All I want is a doctor to help me with the taper process. The clinics are so expensive! I feel like I am between a rock and a hard place. I dont want to go back to where I was, which was running the streets looking for medicine. Before methadone I was addicted to hydrocodone and soma for 10 years. Methadone saved my life in the sense that I got my life back. I had a great job that I loved, spending time with the kids, and I completely left the streets behind. It gave me a normal life. Now I feel trapped again because I'm dependant on methadone and it is starting to make my life not so normal anymore. I just want off!! But withdrawls are my absolute worst nightmare! I cannot handle it. I dont know what to do. If anyone knows how to even begin the process of trying to find a doctor willing to prescribe and assist in tapering, I would be so grateful. I feel so lost.

methadone has saved many lives, as it should because its an opioid, and a strong one.  it has its time and place, just like in this case.

but the problem is you cant just spend your entire life maxed out on an opioid. sooner or later you gotta get your normal brain function back. perhaps the right time and place is in order?

Believe it or not there are doctors around you that can and will help you with this process. All you have to do is take the initiative to pick up the phone and call their office to set up an appointment. I've never heard of a doctor turning a patient down that has a history of usage except for in very rare cases. In my opinion, it would be within your best interest to get out a phone book and start calling around to doctor's offices and tell them your story to see if they're willing and able to help.

I'm scared from 30 days of use!  From what EVERYONE has told me though is you have to accept that it will take a long time to ween...  I started weening the second I took it and decided to stay with it a while longer to keep the vics away...
