Advice

I have been on Percocet for almost 2 years now due to a back injury. I told my doctor I want off. She is helping me wean by cuting me down one tab a day. (I used to take 5-6 7.5/500 a day). I was only  supposed to be taking 3 per day, but I always needed more. I am more ready then ever to just get it out of my system and find another way to deal with my back pain. I hate these pills!!!! So does anyone have any comment on the way my doctor is going about it. I am not going into a clinic, I am going to take a week off work for some down time...please help!

I agree, you should take your doctors advice.  Keep talking to your doctor, tell her you feel like you are just ready to be done with it all and see what she says. You never know, she might think you are ready to jump. She might also want you to keep going all the way down. I think you should not get in a hurry, You should listen to your body. Go as fast or as slow as your body will allow you to go. Please take your time. I know you want to be done with it all, but you did not get in this position over night and you are not gonna get better overnight. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. Keep up the good work. Good Luck and God Bless

I think tapering down is much better than trying to jump off completely all at once. Some doctors out there know very little about addiction. I'll be the first to admit that my PCP doesn't know much about it. I started methadone in a clinic 4.5 years ago and when my doctor found out he was beside himself with me. He wanted me off the stuff as soon as possible. The fact that your doctor wants to gradually take you down in your dosage makes me think that he or she knows something about addiction or dependancy. Before I progressed to methadone I started off with Vicodins.....Then Percocets......Then oxys......then chewing oxys.......Then snorting oxys.....I feel for you.....I have an general idea of what you're going through and for me personally, I think you should take your doctor's advice.
