Withdrawal Depression

Hello All,
I took 5 to 9 10/325 Hydro's (everyday) for about a year, for back pain, and quit cold turkey 9 days ago.  Well, I say cold turkey, but I was taking one tramadol per day for about the first 7 days, to get through the really bad times (had them left over from a previous script.)  I quit taking those because they make my chest feel tight and I also read that they are addictive.  I decided to get off Hydro's because I began taking more than I was prescribed and I saw the writing on the wall.  At day 9, I think the worst is over for me, but I am feeling quite depressed at times.  I was wondering if any of you have had any luck with anti-depressants during your withdrawal period?  I'm seriously considering going to my doctor and asking his opinion on anti-depressants, but I'm not sure that I want to tell him that I recently quit taking hydrocodone.  I may need it again in the future, if I can't function because of my back pain.  Though I don't want to take them again anytime soon, I would like to have the option if I so desire.  I know this may set me up for trouble, but it's hard living with chronic pain, as I'm sure many of you know.  It really ***** that the only pills that really work for, also make me feel so darned good.  Guess that's why the pharma companies are doing so damned well.  Any advice on a good anti-depressant?

Thanks All!

Thanks for the advice.  I think I will give it some time and see how I feel without any more meds.

Thanks

if your not ready to be out in the open and around other people, (as I felt the same way for a while)...then start slow.....go to a dark movie theatre with someone you feel comfortable with...anything to get your mind off of the OBVIOUS...which is.."I"m depressed."....good luck

If there is any way you can tough it out for a bit longer?? I wouldn't start messing with your body just yet.  It needs time to replenish, rejuvenate, and become whole again.  Honestly.  I came off methadone and was depressed for 4 months before I felt one hundered percent again.  I know everyone wants intstant gratification and I may have to bite the bullet with other people probably disagreeing with me.  But I truly believe that because you were on hydros you will bounce back much quicker.  My withdrawls alone lasted 3 months.  (methadone has a LONG half life and withdrawls last much longer) ...so i believe it is safe to say that you should come around much quicker as your withdrawls should only last about 7-10 days and then maybe a week or two (maybe more) of depression.  Try natural ways.  I'm telling you.  working out, going out, being around people...I'm not saying pack your running shoes and go run NOW.  But in a few days i would slowly start to attempt new things again.  I dunno.  I guess for me it would just be opening a whole new can of worms with the anti depressants.  Look up the thomas recipe in the health journals....that also will help you bounce back quicker....all the best
