what do you do now that your in recovery

what do YOU do now that your im recovery? when we were actively  using we didn't have any self control. or drive. or goals. well we had goals..more pills. but now its time to pick up the pieces..the cleanup begins...i set goals everyday. small ones i can accomplish. i write them down. and cross them off....some goals are daily some weekly monthly and so forth...so i encourage all of you to set a goal....and don't forget rewards...one must reward themselves for hard work. think of how much money you've saved..there's got to be something that you want...a pair of shoes...lipstick...a vacation...so what do YOU want to do?? what's your goal? it can be as simple as not using today...or deep cleaning...and don't forget structure...we need schedules and structure...so are ya up for the challenge? share your goal. it will help you...and don't forget doing the right things lead us to the right places...

goals I have accomplished-put brakes on my car, paid off my medical bills, got caught up on all the variable bills, got back to work, doing yoga, continue running every day.  goals I need to meet,be more social, not isolate, and the last one -become happy lol
I had alot of things I would do only when high.It kinda ***** that I really don't want to do those things anymore because they were fun but once I associated them with getting high it ruined them.

Well, getting ready to get my taxes ready for taxman!  Starting to compile a list of people I need to contact to start working on my house.  It needs outside painting, indoor reno and elec. work done.  Both bathrooms, Dining, room, hallway and second bedroom.  Kitchen updo a bit as well.  Whew!!!!!
Going to yoga twice a week  (getting into the routine with my daughter teaching me)! These are all things I needed to do, but on the pills could not get motivated.  I never understood people saying they helped them be more productive.  All it did for me was mellow me out and numb my brain! LOL
Good ideas, bama!!!!!!!

This is exactly the post I was needing, thanks! I'm on day 7, I've been going to the track at lunch and walking at least 3 days a week. I also have a goal of writing all my debt down on paper, and beginning to pay those bills off. I put them off for so long. This is something that I have wanted to do for years, but couldn't find the strength to see the money I have wasted.

Tommy,
Great suggestion about letting go of the activities that we did when we used. There are activities that trigger cravings for me because I only did them high. Retraining our brain is a tough tough job.

Bama,
Goals are what has helped me stay distracted. Through all the trauma and stress of my life here lately, I've had one particular goal that's really stuck with me. That is to be completely honest and occasionally blunt about my feelings, actions, and opinion. No matter, I always seem to feel better, when I go to bed each night. Knowing that I have nothing to hide from anyone, anymore!

Hey bama! Today I am 7 days c/s of opiates and am feeling pretty good! Setting goals is a great way to pick up the pieces, as you've said, but it's also a great way to distract yourself from the mental and emotional torture of w/d. I have many hobbies and interests, but I am letting go of those that I associate with opiates. I'm instead focusing on the things that made me happy and or excited before I became addicted to opiates, such as learning to play the guitar, working out, writing, and spending more time with my family. I'm also getting involved in a support group for addicts. Good luck to you friend, and to all others dealing with this or any other addiction.
Respectfully,
TommyTom12

Hi bama, great idea!

My goal is to keep working out at least 3 days a week, even if I don't feel like it. Usually if I start then I finish. Lol, the starting is the hard part. Luckily we have a workout room here at work that we can use for free so me and a couple of coworkers go together.
