I took methadone for about 6 months and when I stopped cold turkey it got bad in the first week, extremely bad in the second, then came out of it in the third. 3 weeks and I was better.
Why are you stopping cold turkey though? You can reduce the withdrawl symptons if you wein.
hun - are you sure there aren't any n/a or a/a meetings near you? they are everywhere, you know... you'd be surprised.
hedge your bets, sweetheart.. if ya can.
thanks for your reply but i live in a town in the middle of nowhere.i wish i could go to hang with people going through the same misery truly likes company.its day 4 not to bad, man not as long as keeps getting better . i think i will be ok maybe
I feel ya, man. I took methadone for about 3 years straight. I quit the easy way out---Suboxine. You have to be in withdrawal (apx. 3 days)to start the induction, but dr. gave me some other pills to get rid of the heebyjeeby's while I was withdrawing and help a little with the sleep. So the worst I felt was that I had a little insomnia for a few days. Immediately after I took my first dose of Suboxine, I felt totally normal---like the kind of normal you felt like before you started doing drugs and your mind has this feeling of clarity. I was totally amazed at how fast it worked. I'm suppose to take it twice daily, but I forget to take my 2nd dose of the day--don't need it anyway. I think it would be really easy to quit the suboxine, because I don't even think about taking it in the morning, but I do eventually do--usually after something triggers my memory--like when I see my mom take her pills--then I will remember to take mine.
But my advice to you is if you can do it on your own, more power to you. Going to NA would help a lot. NA will change your life if you are willing, open-minded, and honest about your addiction. Plus it is really fun. There is all kinds of fun things to do in NA and you make really wonderful friends. Anyway--that's my two-cents---well maybe 6 cents!
today is my first day without methadone. the last time i quit cold turkey i was sick forabout 3 weeks. eat a balanced diet, plenty of orange juice. it is very hard, but you can do it stick with it.i know it is hard ive been struggling with opiate addiction for almost 10 years it took away my teens and is affecting my adult life. good luck and take care of your self, keep pushing liquids too bye
YOu say you have 3 solid clean days? Well, it should start to get better within the next few days to a week, from a methadone addiction. And when I say get better, I mean a very little bit. But do NOT let this deter you from quitting, with Methadone, because of its halflife, it takes a little longer to get out of your system all together. The mental aspect is the hardest to get rid of, so it does take a bit, but you are through the beginning, just get through the middle and the end. Good luck...
