Macrobiotic Diet

Hello all... I wrote two weeks ago about my mother's dx with ovarian cancer.  She's still recovering from a huge surgery to remove as much of the areas infected with teh cancer.

In the meantime.... I know lots of folks have researched/tried/implemented macrobiotic diets.  Does anyone have any reccomendations or places to look online to start getting a grasp on this diet?

Thank you to you all..... I've found this forum a place of comfort and information.  We are fighting... and fighting hard.

I'm actually against this one and believe the critics.  The diet, which can be expensive, has never really shown any cancer fighting activity.  In-fact, for some patients it has led to death, muscle wasting, growth problems, nutritional deficiences, and more.

While diet does have a role to play in both cancer prevent and cure, I'm not 100% convinced on this one (although with *any* treatment or supplementation, you will find those who have had good results).  Here is some information on it with pro's and con's:  http://www..****..bc.ca/PPI/UnconventionalTherapies/MacrobioticDietsZenMacrobiotics.htm

A good diet, that is hopefully free of sugars (tumors love sugar...unless you are doing a special diet that uses sugar/glucose for cancer fighting), is the best bet.  The NCI has free book(s) on this.  www.cancer.gov  with free recipie guides and more.

If you are interested in some other supplemention, I have a few articles located at:

My Maitake D-Fraction one is not online yet due to revisions, but that is clearly one of the safest supplements you can take (allowed with all chemo regemins by the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute) www..****..com

Send me a message if you have any questions and good luck!

In 1984 I read a book called:  Recalled By Life, written by an MD named Anthony
Satillaro who beat his advanced cancer with macrobiotic diet after all conventional medicine had failed.  He went on to live at least a dozen or so more years.
I was so impressed that I immediately changed my diet to macrobiotic as I had
been suffering from irritable bowel issues.  Within 5 days this problem which
had been bothering me for several years was gone.  I was very grateful and continued
on the diet until about 2004 when I modified my diet to include some aspects of the
Gerson Therapy, including more juicing and less protein, oils, salt, etc.
A relative of mine recovered from advanced cancer in the early 1950's on the Gerson
Therapy and was written up in Dr. Gerson's book called:  A Cancer Therapy, Results of
Fifty Cases.  To make a long story short:  both the macrobiotic diet and the Gerson
Therapy have a lot going for them.  Gerson Therapy is much more aggressive
and faster acting, often reducing ascites and beginning to shrinking tumors within
a few weeks.  Macrobiotic diet is slower acting and might show some progress after about 3 months.  One thing in common with both is that you must be committed, you must find an experienced cooking teacher and an experienced counselor.  Macrobiotic
diet requires is a lot of work; Gerson Therapy is a ton of work.  Both get results
though I tend to think the Gerson Therapy may have a stronger track record.
Here are some resources:

MACROBIOTIC:

GERSON:
www..****..org  (has free online movie called:  The Gerson Miracle)
www..****..com  (Gerson associated Clinic in Mexico)

My wife is presently using a modified Gerson food and juicing program to
help with her recovery from ovarian cancer.  She seems to be making good progress
using conventional medicine and the modified Gerson food and juices.

Good luck with your Mother's situation.
