Possible Symptoms:

Hello ladies, thank you for taking the time to provide me with your insight.  I have been plagued with various symptoms and issues for the last year and as of late they have become increasingly bothersome and I am concerned about ovarian cancer as a possibility.

I was having very long and irregular periods with lots of clotting so my GYN had me go for a sonogram back in December which showed some thicken of the uterus and also a small complex cyst on ovary, he did not seem concerned about the cyst but did perform a D&C in January for the thicken and said everything was fine, I’m not sure if they look at the ovaries during that procedure or not and really did not think to ask because he did not seem concerned.

As of late these are the symptoms I have been having:

Persistent Constipation
My weight has increased but really only around my middle, waist bands are tight but everywhere else still fits the same
Most recent is that my fingers and feet have swelling but on my fingers its not the entire finger it’s right above the second knuckle it’s just fat and puffy, me feet it’s not the ankles it’s the tops of my feet.
Of course fatigue is present along with joint pains I did just have blood work done to check for lupus, lymes and RA because of the swelling and joint pain

I did not even mention ovarian cancer to the Dr because I felt somehow crazy since I’m 44 and no one else seemed to come to this conclusion but it’s just nagging at me.

Once again thanks for your help

Glad to hear you are having your transvaginal sonogram. I hope they drew your blood for the tests I mentioned. My wife is doing good thank you. Her symptoms were not that of the most common form of ovarian cancer here is a brief synopsis.
The blood test CA-125 is a test used by Dr's as a guide to determine if you might have the most common form of ovarian cancer, approximately 80% of all ovarian cancers are epitheal ovarian cancer which is cancer of the cells on the surface of your ovary. Please keep in mind that CA-125 can be elevated if your menstruating and some other cuases of inflamation..
There are other types of ovarian cancer that are hormone driven and depending which form a person has there will be excess symptoms of that specific hormone. This is the type my wife was Dx with granulosa cell ca(estrogen). These group type are called sex cord -stromal tumors. These type of tumors have specific markes that the Dr's use just like ca-125 to aide in their dx of epitheal ovarian ca. They are Inhibin A&B and MIS. Please keep in mind if and only if you have a dx of these form of tumors there is a missconception that these tumors are always benign, which is completely false> They are just slow growing malignant tumors as opposed to epitheal.
Her symptoms were post-menopausal bleeding irreg and heavy= excessive estrogen driven tumor. Her gyn saw her inFeb, March and then in Oct and it wasn't until Oct he found the adnexal mass upom manual exam.
Please post your blood work and repeat sonogram results.
All the best

Kevin thank you for your input.  I received the results of my blood work which indicated that I am anemic and my liver enzymes were elevated.  They did some more blood work today and I am scheduled for a wet prep sonogram / abdominal to see if they can pin point the bloating since it looks like I ate a beach ball since yesterday although the scale does not show a significant weight gain.  I hope your wife is doing well, what were the symptoms that she had if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks again.

Keep in mind most ovarian cysts are benign. What concerns me is your reporting " complex cyst as well as your current symptoms. I am not saying it's cancer but warrants further investigation. You should at have a repeat transvaginal sonogram and a cat scan preferably an MRI along with blood work CA125,CEA.
Post with your results as this site has some very knowledgable  and helpfull people on it. All the best
