Confused and cyst

Hi,
I am getting confused about my body lately. Recently I went 18 months without a period and then I started spotting one day. After being on steroids for a problem with my back. Went to see my gyno and he did a biopsy, ultrasound, CA125 blood test and a D&C. All of the test came back normal. We found out that I have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary and since then I have had another ultrasound.. He says this is not cancer and will removed it if it becomes painful.
This was all back in January. Since then I have had some pain and burning and then it stopped. Then my breast became very sore and I felt like I was going to have a period. I had some clear discharge as well. Today I started what I would call a very light spotting or period. Is this because the cyst is changing or is going away? I have another appt with my Gyno at the end of this month (March) for my annual pap test. I will be talking to him about it then. Should I be concerned. I don't undeerstand what is happening. I am 49 and will be 50 very soon. Please help with my concerns. This kind of stuff makes me crazy. Sometimes I feel like I wouold much rather be done with this stuff then to keep going through it..

I went 18 months without a period. I had vaginal dryness and hot flashes. I had some TMJ going on and my primary Dr put me on a steroid. Shortly after that episode I began to spot.. My gyno says that this could have been due to the steroid. As a precaution he did a biopsy, a D&C and a transultrasound. Along with lots of blood work that included a CA125. These all came back normal. Thats when he found the cyst on my right ovary.. The pain from that at this point has gone away. The spotting has too. The spotting this next time only lasted two days and was extremly light. I do now get some discharge that is very clear. That was gone for those 18 month and my hot flashes have kind of settled down again. I only get a few times throughout the night and they also have became very mild.. It's almost like my body wants to go backwards. I excersise 5 days a week at the gym. I try to eat healthy. I have gained about 6 pounds over the winter months. Putting my weight at 122 and I am 5' 2". Which may be because I am also going to be 50..Ouch..I have never had any problems so this worries me. Three of my sisters have had hystorectomies due to heavy bleeding. My Mom also had one when she was in her 50s. I don't want to do this if I can avoid it.
Am I just worring for nothing? I hope so..
Thanks so much for responding to my concerns.

How far along are you with menopause?  That makes periods very unpredictable and different than anything you had in your younger years. The cyst can also disrupt cycles.
