Be strong, be bold and turn your life around. It is moments like these that present us with opportunities to make positive changes. People are often scared to speak or be honest with their Dr's, but they are there to help you and guide you. The fact that you are here says you want to change and that you care for your unborn child. You have to stop now. Everything will fall into place, you will see! Smile you are carrying a beautiful baby...let that be your new drug of choice. Drink lots of water, walk, run and eat super healthy. I know it is easier said than done but I went to rehab in my 20's for cocaine. It took me 2 days to detox. In fact, I remember sleeping a lot for those 2 days and then I was emotional for days after and then I was free. You can do this. Stay away from friends who use. The universe is opening a new door, a new chapter for you, and you are lucky and your baby is lucky that she has a mom who cares. It is never too late to change. You can do this!

First off you need to tell your doctor what you have been doing.  If you dont and those tests come back positive then CPS will step in.  Also if there would be any issues with the baby they will know why.  Have you thought about getting into some counseling about your addiction?  You need to address what is driving you to use.

i agree with everybody.  it is becoming protocol to test the baby's first poop.  some wait until they see withdrawal symptoms, but more and more are just making the test common for EVERYBODY.

it is imperative you come clean with your OB so that they can help the baby and it is on record you are seeking help.  everything after 20 weeks shows up in tests.  the best way NOT to have them take your baby is to ask for help.  this shows you put your baby first.

Hi again...I agree with the above replies.

I'm also posting a link to your other thread from yesterday, hopefully you got to read my reply:

I'm sure you're very scared hun, but you have to dig deep and find the courage to talk to your doctor ASAP.....the health of you and your baby depends on it.  You aren't the first expectant mother to be addicted to a drug, and you certainly won't be the last....so this is not something your doctor has never seen/dealt with before.

Please update us, okay?  You're in my thoughts.

I have to agree with amanda. You must come clean and tell your ob what your doing, how much, how often, etc... If your in the US i'm thinking if they dont test at birth, if the baby goes into withdrawls while in the hospital then they will definatly test then! I'm wondering if your upfront, maybe the dr can switch u over to something safer until u give birth? Bottom line, if you dont say something to the dr and something happens....what then? You must do whats best for that baby, FIRST AND FOREMOST! You know what u have to do, its just going to suck!!!! But i dont see u having any other choice? Good luck to u and remember, this is not permanent...you can fix this!!!! FIX IT!

Hey girl, im so reluctant to answer your question because i live in Australia, so different rules for different countries.
In my part of the world, they only test bubby at birth, if they suspect mums using.
Its a guessing game for me to say if you stop using now, weather or not drugs will show up, i have no idea.
But what i do know, if you try to taper or quit now, your baby will suffer withdrawals and this could certainly make you go into premateur labour, which you dont want.
I stopped using heroin for 36 hours while pregnant and it set off labour. Bubby was in distress and i delivered in the carpark on the way to the hospital. The cord was wrapped around my daughters neck, but my partner noticed and untangled it before she came out.
It was a horrible experience.
You cant quit cold turkey or taper while pregnant.
You have to get to a doctor right away to sort this stuff out before bubby is born.
I dont see how they can take the child if you start getting honest with your doctors and let them know you want to quit using after bubby is born. They may put you on the sub program before you deliver.
If you lie and get caught out, child protection has this in their favor.
No department wants to take a child from the mum, this is only a last resort.
Please tell your doctor so they can help you. They shouldnt be able to take bubby if they have been informed of your situation, by you.
Please consider being honest, take care : )
